Kimi Räikkönen Only Started Talks With Sauber At Monza After Losing Ferrari Drive

Kimi Räikkönen has said only started talks with Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team at the Italian Grand Prix after learning he lost his drive at Scuderia Ferrari. The 2007 Formula 1 World Champion will leave the Italian team at the end of the season, handing the seat over to Charles Leclerc. Räikkönen announced midweek shortly after the news broke out about leaving Ferrari that he would rejoin his old team on a two-year deal. The Finn raced with Sauber at the start of his F1 career in 2001. The thirty-eight year old said he only began talks with a return to the Swiss team at the Italian Grand Prix after learning that he would not be at Ferrari for 2019.
