Sainz wants single lap Q4 session

Carlos Sainz would like to see Formula 1 return to single lap qualifying, at least for the proposed Q4, saying it would up the pressure for the drivers. Qualifying is one of the hot topics in Formula 1 circles at present after it emerged that there could be a change for 2019. The powers-that-be are debating adding a fourth segment next season, Q4, which would have just eight drivers going for pole position. Sainz would like to see them do so over a single lap. “I would like to see that [a Q4] but only with one set of tyres per session,” the Renault driver told Motorsport Week. “Don’t give the drivers a second set of tyres, have to do it one time per session.
