Carlos Sainz received an early introduction to McLaren when Renault released the Spaniard to test for the team at the final Formula 1 test of the season in Abu Dhabi last week. The 24-year-old was not required by Red Bull, while Renault swooped on Daniel Ricciardo which left the Spaniard with little option but to sign for McLaren, a team with a massive pedigree in the top flight but stuck in the worst period of their history at the moment.
