The first pre-season test of the 2019 Formula 1 calendar concludes in Barcelona, after Wednesday threw up a few surprises to whet fans' appetites. Kimi Raikkonen and Daniil Kvyat stole the headlines with a couple of mega laps that hint at strong progress at Alfa Romeo and Toro Rosso respectively. Both laps dipped under the 1min 18secs barrier and were quicker than anything either team had managed in Barcelona a year ago, despite new aero regulations reportedly making cars slower. Although we have little clue as to how car setup affects performance at this time of year, the progress being made in the midfield is certainly encouraging.
