Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto was delighted to have one of his drivers get pole position in Canada as Sebastian Vettel beat the rest of the grid to it, as Binotto dubs the performance a "positive surprise" for the Italian team. Mercedes were favourites for pole position heading into the weekend as they have taken each win this season so far. The Silver Arrows also introduced an engine upgrade heading into Canada, but Ferrari were the quicker team as the weekend progressed.
