The man who brought Ferrari its first title

Born on this day in 1918, the great Alberto Ascari was the man who brought Scuderia Ferrari its very first driver's title. A Constructors' championship didn't exist back when Ascari was crowned at Monza in 1952, the legendary Italian winning his sixth consecutive Grand Prix at his home race. The son of one of Italy's great pre-war drivers, Ascari was a hugely popular character in Grand Prix racing, a man who clinched 13 wins and two world championships, both achieved with Enzo Ferrari.
