Luca Badoer was no super-sub for Felipe Massa

On this day in 2009, Luca Badoer was named as Felipe Massa's replacement by Ferrari, but it was a nightmare spell for the rusty Italian. The Italian, who had failed to impress during his spell in F1 a decade earlier, was called upon following Massa's freak accident in Hungary where the trusty Brazilian was struck by a metal spring from another car. However, what seemed like an unexpected dream drive for Badoer quickly turned into a nightmare, with Ferrari's sub struggling to extract any speed from his car and ending a massive two seconds off the pace of team leader Kimi Raikkonen.
