Albon set to get five-place grid penalty

Red Bull's Alexander Albon is set to drop to 15th on the grid at Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix due to an unscheduled gearbox change. Formula 1 drivers must use the same gearbox for six successive events but Albon has taken on a fresh version prior to Sunday’s race. As a consequence he is set to incur a five-place grid drop per the regulations. Albon, who qualified a lowly 10th, is therefore set to slide down to 15th spot. Williams’ Nicholas Latifi has also taken on a new gearbox and will drop from 19th to 20th on the grid. His demotion will elevate Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen one spot. Tags: F1RussianGPSochi
