Mercedes fear cost of Bottas crash could impact upgrades

Toto Wolff says the sheer cost of Valtteri Bottas' crash with George Russell at Imola could impact Mercedes' development program in the context of this year's budget cap. After Bottas' high speed run-in with Russell in Sunday's Emilia Romagna GP, the Mercedes crews were left to contemplate a heavily damaged W12. While the car's chassis isn't a right-off according to Wolff, the extent of the damage is set to generate a massive repair bill, the cost of which will have to be taken out of other items or expenses earmarked for this season - such as updates - in order for the Brackley squad to remain within F1's $145 million mandatory budget cap.
