Bottas narrowly tops opening practice in Portugal

Valtteri Bottas. Picture: Mercedes-AMG F1 Twitter Valtteri Bottas finished the opening practice session for the Formula 1 Portuguese Grand Prix just fractions ahead of Max Verstappen. The Mercedes driver topped a busy session by just 0.025s at the end of the first 60-minutes of running. A late lap from Sergio Perez saw the Red Bull driver third best from Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton only fifth. A busy start to the session saw Bottas set the first timed lap, a 1:23.778s. As Carlos Sainz headed out, a fan shroud appeared to be stuck under the Ferrari, breaking free as he exited the pit lane. Esteban Ocon headed out on track before circling back to the pits where he had a new front wing...
