Portimao FP1: Bottas tops razor tight session from Verstappen

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas topped the timing sheets during a tight opening free practice session for the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao. The Finn ended FP1 with a narrow margin of 0.025 seconds to Max Verstappen in second, while Sergio Perez enjoyed a strong showing in third. Lewis Hamilton voiced his displeasure with the balance of his car over team radio early on and ended the session fifth quickest, more than three tenths off the pace. Red Bull were far less active than Mercedes in the opening part of FP1, with Verstappen waiting more than 15 minutes before setting his first timed lap of the weekend.
