Verstappen claimed the lead of the drivers’ championship for the first time in his F1 career following his maiden win in Monte Carlo. Mercedes endured a torrid weekend in the principality as Lewis Hamilton struggled for pace all weekend, while Valtteri Bottas was forced to retire midway through the race due to a botched pit stop. Despite Mercedes’ difficulties on the streets of Monte Carlo, Verstappen believes it will fare better in Baku. “The track is OK but probably not a favourite of mine if I’m honest,” Verstappen said. “I’ve never been on the podium there so it’s time to change that.
