Marko explains how Perez avoided Hamilton wipeout

Helmut Marko says it was a blessing in disguise that Sergio Perez did not make the ideal restart to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The remaining runners lined up on the grid for a two-lap shootout in Baku after the race had been stopped due to Max Verstappen’s tyre blowout. Perez, trying to keep Red Bull’s victory hopes alive, lined up in the pole-position slot with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, complete with smoking brakes, alongside him on the front row. Hamilton had the better start and got ahead, looking set to take the lead out of Turn 1 when his W12 suddenly went straight on and into the escape road.
