Hamilton picks up prestigious award for eighth year in a row

Named after Mike Hawthorn, Britain's first World Champion who died a few months after winning the 1958 title, the award recognises the highest-placed Commonwealth driver in the F1 World Championship. Hamilton claimed this year's accolade despite missing out on the 2021 F1 crown to Dutchman Max Verstappen. While Hamilton maintains his radio silence after last year's controversial Abu Dhabi finale, the award was officially announced during Motorsport UK's 'Night of Champions' at the Royal Automobile Club in London.
