‘Seven teams would need to miss four races to fit budget cap’

Christian Horner has warned more than two thirds of the grid may have to miss the final four races of the season if they to meet the budget cap. With a growing a fear that teams such as Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari could create insurmountable gap between themselves and the rest of the grid due to their spending power, it was agreed that a cost cap would be introduced into the sport for the first time last year. This cap, set at $145m (£115m), means that the 2022 cars are the first to be designed under the new budget and that limit has been moved down to $140m (£111m) for this year ahead of a rise to £135m in 2023.
