A wet first win for Frentzen with Jordan

On this day in 1999, a gritty drive and some crafty team work at Magny Cours delivered to Heinz-Harald Frentzen his first career win with Jordan Grand Prix. Brilliant strategy amid a downpour and a safety car intervention enabled team and driver team to outsmart the opposition. As successive leaders Barichello, Schumacher and Hakkinen fumbled or fell to the side, Frentzen skillfully mastered the elements while Jordan's pitwall directed his course. Frentzen would go on to also win in Italy in '99, the German driver finishing third in the drivers' championship. ©TheCahierArchive
