Despite starting from P2 and P3 on the grid, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc slipped back during the race. For Sainz, slow pit-stops were a factor, and the Spaniard eventually finished in fourth. In the case of Leclerc, the Monegasque had looked to be in contention for the victory following a strong opening stint, during which he found himself in the lead ahead of Sainz and pole-sitter George Russell.
