Being less than a month apart in age, Leclerc and Verstappen frequently competed against each other in karts, with Leclerc finishing second behind the Dutchman in the 2013 CIK-FIA World KZ Championship. While the rivalry between them in the 2022 Formula 1 season has largely been respectful, Leclerc said this was not always the case in the early days of their racing careers.
