Wittich leaves as F1 race director: Are the drivers a reason for his exit?

It was nothing more than a brief announcement. To sum up: The FIA thanked Niels Wittich for his work as Race Director in Formula 1, after he himself decided to take up a challenge elsewhere. It took less than an hour for the German to respond to this message, indicating that he did not want to leave at all and has therefore been sidelined.
