I think my mind about Uni may be close to decided. £25,000 debt after 2-3 years when a degree is no longer a sure fire route to a job? Maybe not. Thanks, Tories.

You may have the theory (ie you got the degree), but you will have no practical knowledge. That you learn with the right attitude (hence my meaning in my very first comment), and knowing that good things come to those who wait.
Go to Uni...be poor...get drunk...have sex...and have the best time of your life before you get 2.4 kids, a mortgage and a nagging wife

As for being pretty comfortable in a fiscal sense, and thinking you can't afford it, welcome to the club....90% of people are in that boat. And any loan you may take, look at it as an investment, not money down the toilet...will only be that if you let it be that.
A good education will get you a better job. Just don't expect to earn 100,000 straight out of the blocks

Depends what degree you are thinking of getting, but, a good way to ensure a job (or get looked at in a better light than others) is to have a degree AND have it in a specialist area, OR look for a job in a niche market, eg engineering and cottage industry engineering like historic car part manufacturing.

I paid for my uni too bud. I ain't that old...and the problem with the UK is that you are billions in debt as a country thanks to your nanny state paying for everything since whats his face rolled Churchill and set up the dependency state.
The earlier people realise if they just buckle down and work hard and pay/earn their way in life the better.
Lose the chip and be happy, man. Thats the sort of attitude employers look for, not someone expecting something for noth...
