  1. Greetings all. Our forum appears to have just been shut down (www.grandprix.com), so migrating over here. A few forum mates may follow.

Easy to register in this forum if you are not color-blind (I had fits with the security check).

Are forums in general becoming passé as people move to other medium?

    Welcome.

Your last question is certainly one of merit. Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit stand out. Reddit is very large and very active, with the option to not only post in the F1 community, but to use the same account to post in other sub-Reddits of interest. Twitter's great component is the ability to "live-tweet" Grands Prix with other viewers, while also being connected to updates from insiders who enhance the race-viewing experience with information not picked up by TV. Sometimes, even "famous" racing personalities will interact directly with you. Facebook's appeal is that you can customize your groups, perhaps tailoring them for less noise, or doing the opposite and making public posts to get shared around to others.

There's also the fact many articles now have commenting interfaces, so people can react to the news right there, rather than on a forum.

The forum still has a dear place in my heart, though, even if most of my racing-related content now appears in tweets.

    Hi Ruslan and all. loljump.gif

I know, I feel like a newbie, I've been away so long. I've been a gp.com with Ruslan where I was a mod (as was Ruslan and he's a seriously nice guy) I meant to come back but things happened and, well, you know how it is.

Anyway, it's good to see some of the same old faces about the place. I hope you can forgive me for abandoning you. prayhands.gif

    Welcome back.

  2. Sporano's from another part of the Internet that we don't talk about here. I think him joining here was the next-best alternative to posting about me on the "Missed Connections" section of the North Jersey Craigslist. There aren't any other websites where users can create content out there (this is the only one), but if there were, we'd have probably used some of the same ones.

  3. Off the top of my head, we don't hear much from:

    Mike

    John

    Ankit

    Graham

    Eli

    Ben

    Jem

    Danny

    Eduardo

    Nathan

    Jez

And others who were gone before you left (like ykick, Player, Shane, etc).

Quite a few others still show up, just not very frequently. Others from our past appear to be always reading and never posting. People leaving is inevitable. New members joining doesn't seem to be, though.

  4. Welcome to TF1!

First I'd heard of Mansell being difficult to work with. All the guys at Newman/Haas, which admittedly was not F1, loved working with Nigel. Either the F1 atmosphere got the best of Mansell and he acted differently there and was more relaxed in CART, or the other guys in CART were absolute *****es to the point Mansell seemed good (Newman/Haas did, after all, employ two Andrettis at a time). :P

  5. Hey, welcome to TF1! It's great to see lurkers join as posters and I hope some others will follow. We are a tight-knit group, but we're a friendly one, and a growing one.

The defunct Peugeot team...I have two racing-related shirts. One's a Champ Car shirt (2008 Long Beach Grand Prix), one's a Total Team Peugeot shirt. Neither exists anymore...poor investments. :P

  6. Hmm, we'll have to differentiate you from JHS18, our other James. We'll call you Sheffield Jim, and him Sheffield Jim as well. :P

Welcome to the forums, James. It's a great place, hope you enjoy it. Don't be afraid to make some posts, even if you're not fully sure of your knowledge. I always share my views on things I know nothing about.
