Clever People 'less Likely To Believe In God'

Recommended Posts

Hallelujah, Batracer and its prophet f1 master batracer!

Yes! Oh yes! It is time for a passage from the Bat'an.

George 6:9

Then, Abraham realized that the long, hard thing under his whatever the hell those people wore back then could easily be inserted into a woman's body. It was in this way that life was created.

It's so moving! I can't wait to live my second life this way!

Heard about this dyslexic atheist? He'd go around asking "Is there a dog?"

Oldie but a goodie

The response to this article reminds me of the response that things like 'the majority of youth crime in the UK is caused by blacks' gets. It's factual. Let's have a sophisticated discussion as to why it is a fact.

The problem is that people see a discussion like this as threatening to their own beliefs. well, i'm not going to change from being an atheist and i don't think any religious people here want to stop believing in God.

Can we actually just discuss why the evidence of this article seems to be so?

Allow me to make a couple of generalisations;

I would hazard a guess that athesists are much more likely to be inquisitve and far less likely to accept the beliefs of their ancestors. By virtue of their inquisitive nature, they have a desire to be open to several notions. They will want evidence to support claims. They will be more likely to be dissatisfied and prone to unhapiness.

Religious people will accept the belief of thier chosen religion and follow the rules of that religion. There is no need to question it because to question it is to miss the point. The evidence of their God is in their belief of the existence of that God. They do not need physical proof in the way that an atheist needs scientific proof. They will be contented people, not as materialistic as atheists. Not as obsessed as atheists about success and money.

Atheists are deemed as more intelligent because they appear to have a wider ability for sophisticated thought. Religious people have exactly the same potential for those thought processes, just not the same desire to exercise them.

Just my take.

Almost post of the month (for me) except for that last part Dribs. Some religious people actually do experience pure spiritual bliss through established religion. One needs to have at least a moderate degree of'"intelligence" for that to happen I would think. Only sophisticated thinking can get past or through the dogma and into them good bits I would think.

I was baptised Roman Catholic, however I would say that I am not astutely religious.

The problem is religious people (especially catholic , christian) get very upset when you talk about religion and want you to have respect... however they usually do not show the same respect for people who are not " believers". Why is this so???

It seems that people who question things in the world / push the envelope in general have a tendency not to be as religious........ ????

Once somebody finds a way, they will defend it like it's their country.

A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!" The religous man replies, " no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle."

Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause "God will grant him a miracle."

With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down." St. Peter chuckles and responds, "I don't know what you're complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter."

Love it!

Live and let live. Believe in whatever makes you happy. Atheism as a philosophy of life is overrated. In fact it isn't a philosophy, more a rejection of existing ones. Still leaves all the questions open. If someone feels they have the answers, well good for them. Probably makes life easier to tolerate.
