Canada loses Formula One slot.

The FIA has released a revised version of the 2009 Formula One calendar following a meeting of the World Motorsport Council in Paris, which no longer features the Canadian Grand Prix.

The provisional calendar released back in June by the governing body contained 19 dates, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the new Yas Island circuit being the one addition to the 2008 schedule.

However, the Canadian race

It's just another stage in Bernie's plan to hold all races in the Middle East and Asia. His greed has consumed him. But the calendar is only provisional, so it may be back.

Burnie must have a master plan. I will love to see how he is capable of capturing the north American continent without a single race there.

I'm unimpressed. Heads will roll.

sorry guys...Canada....good riddance! Never liked the track, and it always broke up or had some funny marbles in that stupid corner ruining the race....

Good point - that won't have helped it's case.

Blasphemy!!!!!!!!

You want speed? You have the casino straight

You want skill? You have the wall of champions, the exit from the hairpin or the first 3 corners.

You want drama? Marblefest!

The track has it all like almost no other. Perfect balance. It is really one of my favourites. I'd rather scrap Monza or Silverstone. And I mean it!

It was dry weather overtaking possible street course. It made a triple impossibility possible and now it's gone. :(

In the meantime we've got the Valencia boredom fest and the Singapore crash cruising.

Heaven help us.

I'd scrap many before Gilles Villeneuve

As for how terrible Valencia is and how undeserving of being on the calender it is, don't get me started....

Dreadful loss. Bring it back and get rid of Valencia, it was bloody atrocious! I don't mind Abu Dhabi being added, it's only an hours drive away from me :P

They just made IndyCar the monopoly for North American Open Wheel Racing market. Now Tony George needs to contact Montreal to get them on the 2010 schedule with a Canadian Triple Crown (Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto).

This sucks for not having an F1 race in my time zone except Brazil.

??????. Oh well. ALMS and Indycar, for me. Not bad racing either. Lots of passing and excitement Good luck F1. Not even showing up on the North American continent will basically make the sport fall off the world here. Lots of other racing and sporting activites to partake in. Frankly the sport barely raised an eyebrow over here. I doubt anyone will even miss it, except for a few of us, and even then we won't miss it for long. If Bernie is playing mind games, I think he is playing by himself. This is it for F1 in North America. With the current proposal, being floated, I think it is a case of good riddance. Sour grapes maybe, but oh well. At least we have Indy car, ALMS, and of course the hughly popular NASCAR. IN a couple of years I believe Indycar will start to regain some of it's past glory, and when that happens, North America will be closed to F1, and bernie would have to sponser an event himself. No track is going to deal with this clown again.

On another note. Porsche, Honda, Toyota have all expressed interst in building racing engines for the Indycar series. Maybe the revival is starting to happen. Perfect timing.

IIRC, most of the teams weren't (aren't?) happy about the chopping of the US GP. North America is their biggest market. Hope the teams can exert pressure to have at least one race in north America.
