Senna 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 From F1central.net: 20 race season not too far away Less testing will equal more races As Max Mosley got the nods of F1 bosses in a Monaco meeting, the path was being lit for a future schedule which boasts up to 20 races, according to a source. The source told us less testing equalled more grands prix. He said a limit on testing might mean that it is almost 'scrapped altogether,' leaving F1 teams willing to spend a bit of money at an extra race or three. It makes sense, because testing only costs teams money ... ... but turning up at a race-track equals advertising and television cash. Renault chief Flavio Briatore is a staunch supporter of the whole concept. 'It makes no sense to test twice or three times as much as much as we race,' said the flamboyant Italian, who claimed the public isn't interested in testing. 'Give them what they want,' he continued, referring to Sunday GP-action.

jbbar 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 Most of the teams are at the GP on thursday so why not give them an extra two hrs on thurs, increase one hour practice to two == extra 6 hrs "testing" per GP but this will be more valuable than before because it will be on the track they will be racing on. May the fast lady fly even faster

C.A.L. 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 The number of races should be 20 1st then later higher at 22 or so. Testing is a waste of time ...when the FIA could be increasing their market with actual product display than teams doing remote testing that actually costs them money instead of making them money. One thing that would hurt or amplify the present situation in F1 is should Ferrari be dominating and STILL M.SCHum. being the less than sporting driver (hand-waver) that he is would try to take all the race results from Rubens. So maybe F1 has to guard itself from the lameness conduct of a cetain F1 team more than make money !
nojvnof1 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Bring them on. Testing is useless. Give them an extra couple hours on Friday to test new things. Allow teams to have their two drivers plus a third to participate in all of Friday practice and everything will be sweet. More races is great.
Sato 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Although at first the thought of getting rid of testing and having a few more races is interesting indeed. But when you think about it there would be alot more retirements in races i would think. Also the drivers have famlies to spend time with tto. Atleast with testing they have test drivers to take care of it most days and they only step in on one day or something.
nojvnof1 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 I can see your point there. But aren't most of the race drivers at nearly all of the tests anyways.
Sato 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Usually the normal drivers only do a day or 2 max...allowing them to rest up and relax for once. And hopefully spend time with their families. The test drivers are practically always there as its there job. it would be nice for us to see 20 races but i don't think it'd be the best thing for drivers. amjay 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 i think 20 races will be good..... it will give teams like williams, renault and bar and perhaps mclaren more races to close the gap to ferrari.... apart from tht it would allow more ppl to watch F1 in at least 2 extra countries.... tht would no doubt increase the popularity of F1 and maybe just maybe get more sponsors for the lower teams...
