5P33D3V1L 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Just curious on peoples opinions, I dont really follow rallying as they barely cover it on TV anymore but to win 5 championships on the trot is just crazy and probably will win more. I mean when he first arrived I knew he was going to be good but this is just getting ridiculous now. Also winning the 2008 RoC, would love to see him test a F1 car. Rainmaster 7 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Hmm I will say that he is rallying god and seems a nice enough chap, although his competition is not that great I think. However my opinion is pretty worthless 'cos I know very little about rallying, although I'm still right, because I'm always right, or something.

kuskor 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Citroen have the advantage and the competition is now a bit weaker but look back a couple of years and you will see the guy is beyond skilled. I have been following rallying for about 12 years, about as long as watching formula 1. Loeb was never as spectacular as Gronholm or Solberg, he is very fast and very consistent, he's the guy that starts first on a gravel rally, loses 3 minutes the first day being first on the road and then drives the rest of the rally at 99% without making a single mistake, closing in on the leader but never doing that extra push that will lead into an off and bags second position in the end. The guy started as a tarmac specialist and became as good as the Scandinavians at snow and ice. When Gronholm was at the top of his game and the Ford was faster than the Citroen Loeb was still winning. His statistics are off the charts now since he has no real competition and has the fastest car. Rallying is very different from Formula one, so you can't call him the best driver overall, what he is though is the Michael Schumacher of rallying, without any of the drawbacks and with any runners up way, way behind. Had it not been for that Diesel from hell , he would have probably won Le Mans in 2006 (2nd place). He has driven both a Renault and Red Bull F1 cars, and was not that slow in a winter testing session at Barcelona. Also won a couple race of champions. Medilloni 6 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 What Kuskor said, good post K. Especially the comparison with the Schumster, Loeb's skill-set is bursting.

Jem of the Shire 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Hmm I will say that he is rallying god and seems a nice enough chap, although his competition is not that great I think. Perhaps, but lets all remember one thing: when he was fairly new he was team-mates with Colin McRae & Carlos Sainz in 2003 at Citroen, and beat them both over the course of a season. No easy feat that. I voted 'carried away', cos none of the answers apply for me. Impossible to say if he's the best driver in the world, but he's the best driver in rallying. Depends exactly what 'the best driver' means, cos it depends what you're driving and on what type of road!

tifosi too! 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2009 Voted "carried away" too!! He is an excellent driver but the "best of the world" title cannot be given lightly, if at all!!

maure 1 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Can't vote. My option would be the best in rallies (by far) but who can say elsewhere. I would like to see him in F1 more than any other outsider star (e.g., Rossi)... which we might get to see soon if Mosley's camorra ways with the drivers succeed and the talent gives him the finger come Australia. Insider 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 Are we in the right forum here? Seb Loeb can drive and handled his test well. I hate pot noodles! Who is he going to drive for? We've already got more drivers than cars.

dribbler 6 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 Is there someone on this planet who, given the same breaks, opportunities and training, better than Loeb? I think so. The nationality of such a person could be completely untypical. 'Best' is quite subjective. Is he the best of the current crop of lucky peddlers? Probably. Is Pot Noodle Lucifer's midnight snack? Undoubtedly. I would say that I would rather eat camel faeces, but then Golden Wonder would launch it as a new flavour.
