Pre-season Testing

Recommended Posts

What? No talk about the Bahrain and Jerez tests? You guys surprise me (not).

Still, we should pull together to find feeds, live timings, and such... I canNOT be the only guy looking forward to the start of the season... some 40 days away.

(Lucky thing SBK starts in two weeks)

Hi maure, some were talking about that in the 2009 Launches forum.

I don't think you'll be able to find feeds. I found some kind of "live timing" but it didn't work well and I don't even know where it was. It wasn't really live.

TBH, this year I'm not that keen on the whole season but I'm really looking forward to seeing the cars in Australia with all the new desings, KERS, Slicks... And what will they be able to do? Will it change overtakings? Will it change anything?

Tell me about it. I got the "live timing" through some eastern-european site... names and numbers are all I got.

I'm looking forward to this season very much. With Ferrari, McLaren, and BMW compromised and unrepentant, we just might get to see Williams, RB, Toyota break some ground. It could work out quite nicely for us, F1 fans...

I'm looking forward to this season just as much as any other, but the only time i've got excited about testing, in all my years of F1-love, is when Button kept going faster than everyone else the lead-up to the 2006 season.

Yesterday I saw the headline that Lewis was fastest, today I see that Kimi was fastest in Bahrain, but as we all know, we cant discuss who is where until after the 1st race

Shame the position Button is being put on. This is a guy that deserves a proper chance more than most.

While the ultimate value of each team won't be known until the some 1/3 of the season is done, it is possible to get an overall impression of about how the field will be spread out by Australia... One intriguing question for me, at this point and for example, is how well equipped will RB be. Webber and Vettel both have the capacity to upset many races...

I've learnt that pre season does not always equate to the real thing.

Still expect Ferrari and McLaren to be out front though.

That's exactly what we are seeing in testing both Ferrari and Mclaren leading the times.

This is the best I've got http://www.motor21.com/noticia.asp?dt=315&nt=59520 I didn't follow last tests in Jerez but I remember them from last season. It's in Spanish but you can grab some info even if you only know a couple of words like amigo y fiesta.

Well, I hope I enjoy the season once it's started. I think it might be a good season for BMW and I'd be happy to see Kubica and Alonso battling for the Championship. Now I think it will be very interesting the intrateam battles: Kubica-Heidfeld or Raikkonen-Massa. And what about Hamilton-Kovalainen or Alonso-Piquet? Mmmm...

Nice to read you again.

Thank you, AleHop. Nice to read you too. Hope you had a good holiday. I rocked my old bones and then some. Back to work, though, so back to posting too.

The teammate battles in the top teams are political, sadly and unfortunately (same as Renault, btw). This situation automatically lowers the level of the competition for if the guys favoured by the boss are not up to par... we get what we got, namely, a competition where races are not raced because the winner is the only guy able to keep the car on track.

Thus my hope for a strong Wiliams, RB, Toyota. This is the season to get a brutal upset and have Rosberg, Vettel, Webber, Trulli show the toyboys what it means to be an F1 racer.

I hope that Toyota at least make a bit of an impression this season. Was watching the car at the Bahrain circuit and it definately is looking good for them, car looks really good out of corners.... guess we will have to wait to the first race to see

There's been a fair bit from the test venues on various cable stations here in La Manga and I've made up a little performance table:

STR - Buemi has superb car handling, a slider but not too busy in the c#ckpit. Car had good traction everywhere with a tad of understeer which, I understand he likes to have dialled in anyway.

Renault - Alonso looked busy in the car, slow out of the corners but a fair bit of straight line grunt. Looks like a tractor.

BMW - looks urgent and smooth with performance in hand. My tip for a surprise WCC win this year.

Red Bull - The laps I saw were not impressive. It was handling like a refuse truck.

Toyota - Looked silky. I couldn't fault it. Something has happened over there and it looks like a major contender.

McLaren - It definitely seems to lack straight line speed - no question about it, despite the latest times.

Saw half a lap of a Williams and nothing else. To be fair, STR and Toyota looked to have made the most progress from 2008 with McLaren looking pretty much the same. I believe there will be sea changes, across the board as each race comes upon us and no one is going to run away with it - that's for sure. There are at least three drivers out there who are every bit as good and quick as Hamilton and Mc Benz will have to work bloody hard to keep him competitive.

Heard a rumour that Toyato could pull out after this season if they don't perform well.

David Richards is free!

Interesting. What of Ferrari?

But Buemi has been driving the 2008 car, this year's STR depends on Red Bull, right? So good luck to both teams...

Glad for Toyota!!

Ferrari looks red.

Welcome back, btw. ;)

How is it going, Oh Quiet One.

You must be in the middle of summer right now... and had a "Dakar" rallying through the Pampa, didn't you? Did you get to see any of the action?

Mid summer here, that's right. And hot as hell!

I saw some of the action of the Dakkar rally and Imust say I was impressed. Maybe I am too skeptic of my own country but I didn't expect to see such good action. It certainly had nothing to envy to the African version. The landscapes were beautiful and very demanding, and the organization was not too bad, compared to the usual Dakkar organization.

Yo do realize that this comment of yours says a great deal about you and absolutely nothing whatsoever about Eastern Europe.

Fingers crossed.

That was my understanding as well. Tough rally, brilliant landscapes, great hosts.

I do have a thing for Argentina's back country and hope to make it around there some day... Riding my motorbike through Patagona is way up there on my list.

I didn't expect such an impressing rally at first but the landscape was astonishing and there were some amazing moments during the race. As you said, it has nothing to envy to the African version.

Oh, you said all the rest too. I could have copy/paste your post... :dam:

Testing is like padded bra's. They flatter to deceive. It's not until you get real that you find out what's really there.

I'm not going to say that Red Bull, Williams or any others are fast until I get them home.

Sarcasm is still meant in a bad way, either you change it to irony or you won't want to be around me when I get offended! <_<
