Today In F1

Recommended Posts

Ahhh, the innocence of new members. Been there years ago!

Yes, we could start a thread about all that. And it will soon drift towards things that happened today in F1. As you can see, most of us at TF1 suffer from ontopicphobia, a terrible disease. :D

O.K., I think you finally locked in my vote for funniest forum member of 2009, which may very well have been your intention. And I will not be posting my favorite Kipling poem...

I enjoyed Crimesies, though the epilogue was a waste of time (it really only proved one of Dostoyevsky's points and he could have easily proved that without it), and I didn't really like the whole "not taking a side thing" Dostoyevsky did on the capitalism vs. socialism funtime debate. He just portrayed them both as stupid failures. Maybe they both are.

Of Mice and Men was good, too, because it was 100 pages long. Brave New World was legitimately good, as was Tale of Two Cities. I'm enjoying Cat's Cradle, too, though I've been way too busy to finish it (I have until December something-ith anyway). To Kill a Mockingbird was, in a word, cute. A good story that really said absolutely nothing of interest. Lord of the Flies was a horribly boring plot but an interesting commentary on Christianity.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles was the worst book ever written, followed closely by Ethan Frome, which was only better because it was a Sh#t-ton shorter.

Of course, I judge texts based on the grade I get on the essay about them. My paper comparing the religious aspects of Tess and Great Expecations got a 97, so I happened to love those books so very much, although I probably skipped the middle part of Tess. I can't recall because it's hard to say whether I just didn't read the middle or if absolutely nothing of interest happened in the middle. Probably both. It's laughable that it's a TV series in the UK because it's flat-out stupid. "Oooh Tessie's at a new dairy farm wearing one of those old-fashioned three-hour skirts! And there's a red machine in the fields it must beSatan! And Angel Clare is God; he has a new 17 year deal to be Him, actually! Hooray!"

Same happened with (Tony) Romeo (no one will even get that) and Juliet and Macbeth. My paper comparing the two used the word feminism so it got a 94 (I think it was the best piece of bulls##t ever when I said that Juliet telling Romeo to "be some other name" showed how Shakespeare was a feminist and yet it was so amazingly amazing how they all fell for it) and I hated those texts a lot less for it.

I get to spend this weekend (read: Monday night) writing all about Crimesies (5-7 page paper), so I'll see how much I like it then. There's a lot to write about, so I think I won't hate it.

Today in F1, by the way, the FIA proposed a new points system and it sucks. I have an idea. 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. It's a beautiful work of beauty and the car in P10 shouldn't get points because that's stupid. And it's stupid because I said so and I don't feel like backing it up.

Does Mr. Kipling make a shepherds' pie?

Six exceedingly good almond slices? Only six? Wouldn't they be exceedingly exceedingly good if there were, oh, I don't know, 14?

How does Jenson Button feel about high school literature? I think it would change my mind about his worthiness as a champion.

Did you know I'm working on a 17-year-deal to continue posting here? I lease the username from a group of nine monkeys called Geniital Investments and only own 25% of it, but still call it my name anyway (my name is lewisthegreat2, obviously). I hope the deal works out or else I'll be moved to felipethegreat3.

Today in F1, Google Maps confirmed there will only be 24 cars on the grid in 2010.

You could fit three Team US F1s in a Super Wal-Mart. And then some.

Eric: If we could bottle your energy fossil fuel would become a thing of the past.

Today in F1 it looks as though Nick Fry c#cked up again. Due diligence gentlemen - that's the name of the game:

http://www.totalf1.com/full_story/view/327127/Henkel_says_Mercedes_deal_is_invalid/

EDIT: Sky Sport now quoting Schumi's pay packet is £20m and not £3.5 as previously reported elsewhere. If this is true and Henkel don't pay up, MGP is in deep Sh#t. I believe F1 is now the biggest 'soap' on Earth!

Very interesting twist. How many people at Brawn/Mercedes GP have egg on their face now?

I am pretty sure they are not going to use Persil any time soon. :)

I am sure Haug got lotsa ze punishment (Eric, Andres or Adam can give you more insight of ze punishment) from the top guys at Merc.....

But anyways, they do have lotsa money in reserves to run the team. $90 million is peanuts for Merc.

Other news:

- Stand in Drivers to get one full day of testing

- Even garage space for all teams

- Less aero testing, down from 8 days to 6

- 8 cars eliminated from Q1 & Q2

- Red Bull Racing go with Renault power again in 2010

This just in on Renault's future participation in F1:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8415935.stm

So in a way, another manufacturer goes away, only to be replaced by some obscure investment group, yay!

Oh, well, if anybody asks for me, I'll be in my room, trying to imagine myself rooting for Ho Ping Tung as the new Alonso.

best news for long time - hope he gets a half decent car, but then again, he'll be battling hard no matter what he drives - all the better for us.

Bah...Tung will trounce him and everybody else. You will see!

Go, Tung, Go! Go, Renault Investment Capital Group, Cayman Is. not affiliated in any way with Renault F1, go!

 Depending on Kobay's performance I may actually be unable retain my non-partisan status (for the first time since 1987/8ish).

I really really hope he turns into the class act that he showed the potential for in those 2 races.

One concern...

The whole grid drives differently at the start of the season compared to the end. Button's jousts with Kobay took place when he was being very careful to finish the races. Equally, everyone else was wanting to get what few points they could from the last few races in order to get a bit more money for themselves and their teams. Kobay on the other hand had nothing to lose and everything to prove – and drove accordingly (and brilliantly).

My worry is that he will either calm down and be thinking about the long haul come the start of 2010 or that he will drive like he did, but that others will be willing to take more risks and he'll get involved in a few incidents a la Vettel - Kubi - Australia 2009. Then he'll be labelled a dangerous risk-taker and will be forced to back down a bit.

I hope I'm wrong. I just think it'll be harder for him to retain that kind of fighting attitude for the first 5 races or so. If he can and comes through relatively unscathed, then I will be a happy, happy man.

A lot of this will depend on how Sauber treat him. If they tell him to calm down and bring home the points each race, he'll end up a fine driver. If they let him go and do what he does - he'll be great (but it may be a rocky road along the way).

Mmmm, he's gonna be driving a Sauber which will probably suck (maybe not big time, but I have this idea that it will suck xD) so thinking abou tdriving conservatively shouldn't be on his plans for the day fro starters. Looking forward to see how this plays out :D

I feel that Montezemolo is trying to say something else here but he, for some reason didn't say it.

Ferrari: Schumacher could race for Mercedes GP

Speaking to members of the media at Ferrari's traditional Christmas lunch in Fiorano, di Montezemolo said: "I spoke to him yesterday Wednesday and he told me there is a very strong possibility but that it's not 100% decided."

While there has been much speculation in recent weeks, di Montezemolo is the most respected figure to speak out, the Italian having worked alongside Schumacher as he secured five drivers' titles for the Maranello outfit.

"A guy called Michael Schumacher told us at Monza he would renew his consultancy contract," di Montezemolo continued, referring to the consultancy contract he had with the Italian company. "And it looked like his career would finish with Ferrari. But then there's another one who looks like him, 40 to 41 years old, German, same name

That's everywhere on the Internet. It's a matter of time and only the doctors could keep Schumacher away from F1 next season.

[EDIT]I read somewhere MS wants to bring some Ferrari team members of his confidence to Mercedes. Maybe that was too much to swallow for Montezemolo[/EDIT]
