The problem with wealthy individuals is that with the World money markets in such a state of flux they may not be so wealthy tomorrow. The revelation that Dubai is close to $80 billion in debt is mind-warping. Qadbak were as thin as paper, asset-wise and BMW should have done their homework far sooner. It is incongruous that a German company were so lax in their diligence of a prospective buyer. I've heard the Penske rumours too and others that mention Chip Ganassi and Dario Franchitti getting involved. A reasonable rumour is about Microsoft, who are leaking money and were sniffing around Brawn at Monaco. Probably, the one closest to the mark is a merger with USF1, whose primary investor, Chad Hurley is getting seriously p**sed off with. And, on and on we go.

IndyCar won't be around after 2010; they'll surely fold. Penske and Luczo will need something to waste money on, so I could see them considering it. Peter Sauber was sold the team again, so he may not need that large of an investment, especially if he can land MegaFon or another major backer. It certainly won't be Roger or Chip as both feel the United States is the world and there is nothing else outside of it. Ganassi uses the profits of his NASCAR team to fund his IndyCar team which, in turn, drains all of his cash and leaves him empty. Dario's probably bored crapless racing in the IRL since he wins the title ever year, but he's one of those guys who is much like Bourdais: too good for the US, too poor for Europe. He should have gone to sports cars when he could have. Anyway, Penske and Ganassi is just wishful thinking by some American who dreams of Formula 1 becoming Formula USA. It always happens like that. Everyone wants to link a big name to it when in reality it's probably someone with no involvement in racing whatsoever. It was the same when Ken Anderson tried to buy Honda in the summer of 2008; the reports suggested Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser were trying to start an American-based team by purchasing Super Aguri's equipment, when in reality it was Ken Anderson trying to buy all of Honda and base the team out of Brackley. When Anderson realized he'd need actual money to do that, of course, he didn't.

I doubt there'd be a merger as much as Hurley just leaving, US F1 folding, a NASCAR team buying their only asset (the shop itself), and that being the end of it. Hurley got a raw deal, for sure, but it's his own fault. He's young and rich and good for him, but he's probably too young to be rich. Surely there's a reason Google don't let him run the thing anymore. Regardless, it's what happens when you let national pride get in the way of decision making...you drink the "all-American we're the best yeah let's go kick a## woooo KFC Chevrolet Daytona Five Hunnret yeeeehaw!!!" koolaid and you get what you ask for.

On to Toyota, then. If Stefan Grand Prix really bought it, I'll have to change my signature. I could see them having the silliest driver lineup in the history of life. I suppose they'll already accomplish that by hiring Milo

By the way, you mentioned Microsoft...MSN cares so much about F1 they wrote this on Crashgate:

No crash course in sports cheating would be complete without the story of Nelson Piquet Junior. With teammate Fernando Alonso in a tight race for the Formula One world title, Piquet's bosses at the Renault team ordered him to deliberately crash his car during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. After using the crash to make a crucial pit stop, Alonso ended up winning the race and captured the championship by a single point. Months later, Piquet blew the whistle on Renault boss Flavio Briatore, forcing the Italian to resign.

Yes, yes, exactly as it happened. Link (I copied the text since I'd assume they'll eventually ammend their errors. Actually, they'll probably try to, but IE8 will crash, and they'll never be able to fix it).

Besides, Microsoft can't enter F1 unless they can run an Apple ECU in their car, just like how they use a Mac to make their commercials :P

With Sauber buying back his team and despite Toyota offering to lease their facilities and intellectual property, [far too late in the day, methinks] I believe we need a revision:

Mercedes GP | Schumacher/Rosberg

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes | Button/Hamilton

Williams Cosworth | Barrichello/Hulkenberg

Scuderia Ferrari | Massa/Alonso

Panasonic Team Renault | Kubica/Kobayashi

Red Bull Renault | Vettel/Webber

STR Ferrari | Buemi/Alguersuera

Petronas Lotus Cosworth | Trulli/Klein

Force India Mercedes | Sutil/Luizzi

Virgin Manor Cosworth | Glock/Davidson

Campos Meta 1 Cosworth | Senna/De La Rosa

Sauber Ferrari GP | Heidfeld/Fisichella

Huh???

I was commenting on a post by some christiano(?) regarding a drive for Piquet in one of the new teams.

But my amusement was more directed at the long, long list of entries than anything else. Thus, my comments in another thread:

And let's be honest, what reliable news do we have on half the teams for 2010? Geez, even teams like Renault could be leaving... and which new teams will actually be able to make it by the time the season starts? News from any of their cars, guys?

Klein in a Lotus? Well. Apologies if my 30 something year old brain is buried in the sixties and seventies..... BUT NO! Thats a travesty in itself. So many talented drivers to waste the drive on prettyboy Christian. For instance and I can't believe I'm about to say this but Kimi. Kova. Even bloody Sato.

Oh man. Oh man oh man.

Thank God you were being sarcastic! I nearly killed myself!

Aw, come on, quit picking on Microsoft. Give credit where credit is due: At least they got the part right about Alonso winning the championship by a single point.

Oh, puh-leez!! They already have their T-shirts homologated by FIA! Stop being so negative. Plus, I heard it from a guy with a cool shiny looking stethoscope (he's not a doctor, don't ask) that F1 Master Batracer already made some investment (he provided the team with TWO pen drives and lots of yarn which we all know is vital for every team). They are already negotiating a Kool Tools

Who the hell are Stefan Grand Prix?

Someone put Schuey as their guess for the Merc seat today - you cant be serious? Very wishful thinking in my opinion. I'd bet money on Heidfeld

Who the hell are Stefan Grand Prix?

They were one of the teams that applied to be one of the new teams but did not make the cut (because they commit to running Cosworth engines). They're owned by Zoran Stefanovich, who denied the team was buying Toyota F1, but are still trying to get on the grid. I feel as though they won't compete, but if they do buy Toyota...well, I figured I'd predict. I think we'll see 12 teams: the 8 confirmed plus Sauber plus Virgin plus Campos plus 1Malaysia. No US F1 and no Stefan.

I can't keep track of all the new teams, very confusing. It's turning into the wacky races.

Seat Two has to be a buy drive, I reckon and Klein has clout and sponsors.

I'd give him the money not to drive. Ever again.

He's not even that good @ Le Mans! Classic case in point, LM 2008, Franck Montagny did an amazing stint & overtook JV for the overall lead, Klien gets into the car & gets it beached & loses the lead! I think after that Montagny killed Klien & could be the reason why he didn't race for Peugeot @ LM this year! Or maybe he just can't control almost 900 lb-ft of torque from the Pug diesel!

Ho-Ping Tung! Who is he? Probably Kubica's team-mate next year or Mangrove Renault's new test driver. He is a 26 year old, Dutch-born Chinese who races in GP2 and is managed by Gravity, a company connected with Gerard Lopez, a co-founder of Mangrove who are in talks with the Enstone boys to buy Renault F1, according to my sources and Sports Aktuell. He is also a last minute addition to Renault's testing session at Jerez where the Chinese press are swarming in their hordes. The pit babes love a Tung - eh what? Here's hoping. Sorry - I couldn't resist it.

I just hope they don't test his cousin, Wan-kin Kok.

Looks like JV is headed to Lotus! And if Schumi makes it back to Merdedes, we will have the sparks flying in F1. We need some inter personal driver drama in the soap opera we call Formula 1. Especially since Schumacher made some funny remarks about JV's musical career, something to effect "If his singing is like his driving...." :-P

Oooh! I am excited about this possibility of seeing these former WDC go head to head (albeit in unequal machinery). It might make me get over the loss of Kimi for 2010! One fav out, another back in! (not schumacher)

"

Yet Villeneuve, 38, who has also been linked with the new US F1 team, is leaving nothing to chance. In case an offer does come his way, he has submitted himself to a gruelling fitness regime with his former trainer Dr Erwin Gollner, an Austria-based motorsport specialist whose clientele has also included Damon Hill and Nico Rosberg.

Villeneuve described Gollner's brand of intensive strength and resistance training as "really, really brutal".

He went on: "After warming up, the programme lasts 100 minutes and the longest pause is five seconds. Fortunately, Erwin hasn't sent me training in the sauna yet." That will come. It just proves how serious Villeneuve is about competing again. He said: "Do you think I would come to suffer, in a retreat, leaving my two sons far away, if I didn't believe things are moving along well?"

Acclaimed designer Mike Gascoyne, currently hard at work on the new Lotus car, has been in on the talks with Villeneuve. "It's nice that we're getting interest from experienced people," he said. "We've got a great heritage that we've got to live up to."

JV?

Is he bringing that orange bag of twat Craig Pollock with him?

Whilst the appeal of Schumacher makes me excited to the point of a screaming orgasm, JV is much like the man who doesn't know where anything is.

Come on! Give me something good!
