BradSpeedMan 6 Report post Posted February 18, 2010 It's a Pink Floyd song from the album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". Thanks... I like these lyrics... "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" It's cold outside, it gets so hot in here The boys and girls collide to the music in my ear I hear the children crying and I know it's time to go I hear the children crying, take me home A painted face and I know we haven't long We thought that we had the answers, it was the questions we had wrong I hear the children crying and I know it's time to go I hear the children crying, take me home Sad song sad song Bono (U2)
Persevere 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2010 Turning the clock back - easy for me - one of a small handful who can truly be called a pioneer of rock and roll, Mr. Chuck Berry. He dashed off lyrics with aplomb. Here is Brown-Eyed Handsome Man: Arrested on charges of unemployment He was sittin’ in the witness stand The judge's wife called up the district attorney To say "Free that brown eyed man. If you want your job you'd better free that brown eyed man.” Flying across the desert in the TWA I saw a woman walking across the sand She been walking 30 miles en route to Bombay To meet a Brown eyed handsome man Her destination was a Brown eyed handsome man. Way back in history 3000 years Back ever since the world began There's been a whole lotta’ good women shed a tear For a brown eyed handsome man A lot of trouble for a brown eyed handsome man. Beautiful daughter couldn't make up her mind Between a doctor and a lawyer man The mother told the daughter "Go out and find Yourself a brown eyed handsome man. That's what your daddy was, a brown eyed handsome man.” Milo of Venus was a beautiful lass She had the world in the palm of her hand But she lost both her arms in a wrestling match To get a brown eyed handsome man She fought and won herself a brown eyed handsome man. Two, three, the count with nobody on He hit a high fly into the stand Round the third he was headed for home He was a brown eyed handsome man. That won the game he was a brown eyed handsome man

Argento Reloaded 1 Report post Posted February 18, 2010 A very intimate song. Remember my old school days... For Absent Friends Sunday at six when they close both the gates A widowed pair, still sitting there Wonder if they're late for church And it's cold so they fasten their coats And cross the grass, they're always last Passing by the padlocked swings The roundabout still turning Ahead they see a small girl On her way home with a pram Inside the archway The priest greets them with a courteous nod He's close to God Looking back at days of four instead of two Years seem so few Heads bent in prayer For friends not there Leaving twopence on the plate They hurry down the path and through the gate And wait to board the bus That ambles down the street

Medilloni 6 Report post Posted February 18, 2010 I'm on roll, real words from Pulp, Common People....... EDIT: Listen to William Shatners version, it's faf She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge, she studied sculpture at Saint Martin's College, that's where I, caught her eye. She told me that her Dad was loaded, I said "In that case I'll have a rum and coca-cola." She said "Fine." and in thirty seconds time she said, "I want to live like common people, I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people, I want to sleep with common people, like you." Well what else could I do - I said "I'll see what I can do." I took her to a supermarket, I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere, so it started there. I said pretend you've got no money, she just laughed and said, "Oh you're so funny." I said "yeah? Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here. Are you sure you want to live like common people, you want to see whatever common people see, you want to sleep with common people, you want to sleep with common people, like me." But she didn't understand, she just smiled and held my hand. Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school. But still you'll never get it right, cos when you're laid in bed at night, watching roaches climb the wall, if you call your Dad he could stop it all. You'll never live like common people, you'll never do what common people do, you'll never fail like common people, you'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw, because there's nothing else to do. Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you through, laugh along with the common people, laugh along even though they're laughing at you, and the stupid things that you do. Because you think that poor is cool. I want to live with common people, I want to live with common people etc.

Songs about other songs/singers/musicians from an earlier time often tend to be mawkish. This one works very well.

dribbler 6 Report post Posted February 19, 2010 You ask me to come back and then Don't hold back and don't pretend Gimme, gimme, gimme pain Do it once and do it again. Put my feet on solid ground. Steve Hackett - Solid Ground. Its only a part of the song but its a great song nonetheless. Are you sure you are female? I do wonder sometimes. You have no right to like motorbikes, JD and Hackett. I love this song. The mention of a desert and a football pitch in Newcastle being contrasted is just one of the lyrical highlights; Mad Man Moon, by Genesis (with Steve Hackett, of course). Written by Tony Banks. Was it summer when the river ran dry Or was it just another dam When the evil of a snowflake in June Could still be a source of relief Oh, how I love you, I once cried long ago But I was the one who decided to go To search beyond the final crest Though I'd heard it said just birds could dwell so high So I pretended to have wings for my arms And took off in the air I flew to places which the clouds never see Too close to the deserts of sand Where a thousand mirages, the shepherds of lies Forced me to land and take a disguise I would welcome a horse's kick to send me back If I could find a horse not made of sand If this desert's all there'll ever be Then tell me what becomes of me, a fall of rain? That must have been another of your dreams A dream of mad man moon Hey, man, I'm the sandman And boy have I news for you They're gonna throw you in gaol And you know they can't fail 'Cause sand is thicker than blood But a prison in sand is a haven in hell For a gaol can give you a goal A goal can find you a role on a muddy pitch in Newcastle Where it rains so much, you can't wait for a touch Of sun and sand, sun and sand Within the valley of shadowless death They pray for thunderclouds and rain But to the multitude who stand in the rain Heaven is where the sun shines The grass will be greener till the stems turn to brown And thoughts will fly higher till the earth brings them down Forever caught in desert lands one has to learn To disbelieve the sea If this desert's all there'll ever be Then tell me what becomes of me, a fall of rain? That must have been another of your dreams A dream of mad man moon

Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2010 No, I won't. I'd really love to let fly but here isn't the place. I will say that I'm surprised. Music needs no gender. And to be quite honest I've probably took it way out of context but so what if I'm female? I've done and seen a lot more than others dare to dream.

Argento Reloaded 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2010 Not particualry great but I always like it: Wondeful Tonight It's late in the evening; she's wondering what clothes to wear. She puts on her make-up and brushes her long blonde hair. And then she asks me, "Do I look all right?" And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight." We go to a party and everyone turns to see This beautiful lady that's walking around with me. And then she asks me, "Do you feel all right?" And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight." I feel wonderful because I see The love light in your eyes. And the wonder of it all Is that you just don't realize how much I love you. It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head, So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed. And then I tell her, as I turn out the light, I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight. Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."
Quiet One 15 Report post Posted February 19, 2010 Proof that you can find diamonds in the rough. "The day before you came" by ABBA, nonetheless. Must have left my house at eight, because I always do My train, I'm certain, left the station just when it was due I must have read the morning paper going into town And having gotten through the editorial, no doubt I must have frowned I must have made my desk around quarter after nine With letters to be read, and heaps of papers waiting to be signed I must have gone to lunch at half past twelve or so The usual place, the usual bunch And still on top of this I'm pretty sure it must have rained the day before you came. I must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past two and at the time I never even noticed I was blue. I must have kept on dragging through the business of the day without really knowing anything, I hid a part of me away. At five I must have left, there's no exception to the rule. A matter of routine, I've done it ever since I finished school. The train back home again Undoubtedly I must have read the evening paper then. Oh, yes, I'm sure my life was well within it's usual frame the day before you came. Must have opened my door at eight o'clock or so and stopped along the way to buy some chinese food to go. I'm sure I had my dinner watching something on TV. There's not, I think, a single episode of "Dallas" that I didn't see. I must have gone to bed around a quarter after ten. I need a lot of sleep and so I like to be in bed by then. I must have read a while The latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style. It's funny, but I had no sense of living without aim the day before you came.
