PAULOcbi Reply Jimi Hendrix over-rated??!!! you sir are a perfect idiot! please NEVER comment on YouTube again! You kind of see chdll4me's point though. Zappa was remembered more for his sneer on society and outlandish lyrics rather than his guitar playing. Jimi Hendrix was unique in his time and quite misunderstood but there were guitarists around at the time who were technically as capable, they just weren't shagging amps and burning guitars on stage and therefore not as prominent. Persevere 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2010 BradSpeedMan: I have to side with dribbler and Kopite Girl here. Zappa was technically adept in his guitar playing but his real, lasting strength was his skills as composer and provocateur. He not only "said" what some of us were thinking but did so creatively and humorously. If Hendrix had never written a damn thing it wouldn't have mattered. No one was playing guitar the way he did when he broke through between 1966 & 1967. As fine as Clapton and Beck were at this time - to name those two - neither had the innovation Hendrix brought to his playing. In fact the both of them, literally and figuratively, stood back in awe at what J.H. was capable of.

Quiet One 15 Report post Posted February 20, 2010 Beautiful lyrics & musci combination. WIthout the music, the lyrics lose some strength. Radiohead at its gloomiest. EXIT MUSIC (For a film) Wake... from your sleep The drying of your tears Today.. we escape We escape. Pack and get dressed Before your father hears us Before.. all hell.. breaks loose. Breathe... keep breathing Don't lose.. your nerve. Breathe... keep breathing I can't do this.. alone. Sing us a song A song to keep us warm There's such a chill Such a chill. You can laugh A spineless laugh We hope that your rules and wisdom choke you Now we are one In everlasting peace We hope that you choke.. that you choke

Quiet One 15 Report post Posted February 20, 2010 Excellently said David. Couldn't have put it better myself dude. @Andres - love radiohead. I know its mainstream but Karma Police one of the best songs ever. And what's the problem with mainstream? Karma Police is one of the most beautiful songs ever made, there IS a reason why it became mainstream! Sometimes things become massive because of their own mediocrity, others, because of their own greatness. (And if David thinks I am trying to justify myself for quoting an ABBA song well, he is damn right!)

Jez 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 I just can't get enough of these guys. If you have a moment please listen to this track- "Another Morning Stoner" by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead Please ignore the band name and song title, neither really represent them well. These guys write some really emotive songs. I get the feeling this one's about maybe a musician realizing that not only does he love music more than he loves the person he's with, but music kind of defines him to the point where he just can't make a compromise for someone else's beliefs. Kind of full on, but quite beautiful if you hear it. Are you asleep, are you in a dream? The copper shades of a morning Distant lights beckon and fade Unwritten songs of another day I feared that you would never be Every song in the world for me I took your hand, led you astray You cursed the worlds I longed to save Is heaven to you a perfect place? The look of sorrow on a sufferer's face A field of lives to sow and to reap That some of us will never see? Why is it I don't feel the same? Are my longings to be blamed For not seeing heaven like you would see Why is a song the world for me? What is forgiveness? It's just a dream What is forgiveness? It's everything

Persevere 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 Radiohead: One of a small handful of contemporary bands I have any knowledge of, and this thanks primarily to my son. When everything jells in one of their songs you can easily lose yourself, which is perhaps the ultimate compliment by a listener. ...and I for one will grant Andres his ABBA moment due to his fetish for Swedish blonds. JHS 1 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 I'm not massive on music, but I particularly like this song by Dire Straits: well it's a strange old game - you learn it slow one step forward and it's back to go you're standing on the throttle you're standing on the brakes in the groove 'til you make a mistake sometimes you're the windshield sometimes you're the bug sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're a fool in love sometimes you're the louisville slugger sometimes you're the ball sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're going to lose it all you gotta know happy - you gotta know glad because you're gonna know lonely and you're gonna know bad when you're rippin' and a ridin' and you're coming on strong you start slippin' and slidin' and it all goes wrong because sometimes you're the windshield sometimes you're the bug sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're a fool in love sometimes you're the louisville slugger baby sometimes you're the ball sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're going to lose it all one day you got the glory one day you got none one day you're a diamond and then you're a stone everything can change in the blink of an eye so let the good times roll before we say goodbye, because sometimes you're the windshield sometimes you're the bug sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're a fool in love sometimes you're the louisville slugger baby sometimes you're the ball sometimes it all comes together baby sometimes you're going to lose it all

Argento Reloaded 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2010 How can I forgot it! Kayleigh by Marillion Do you remember, chalk hearts melting on a playground wall? Do you remember, dawn escaped from moonwashed college halls? Do you remember, the cherry blossom in the market square? Do you remember, I thought it was confetti in our hair By the way didn't I break your heart? Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart. So sorry I never meant to break your heart. But you broke mine. Kayleigh is it too late to say I'm sorry. Kayleigh could we get it together again. I can't go on pretending that it came to a natural end. Kayleigh I never thought I'd miss you, and Kayleigh I'd hoped that we'd always be friends. We said our love would last forever, so how did it come to this bitter end. Do you remember, barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars Do you remember, loving on the floor in Belsize Park Do you remember, dancing in stilletos in the snow Do you remember, you never understood I had to go. By the way, didn't I break your heart ? Please excuse me I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart, But you broke mine. Kayleigh, I just want to say I'm sorry, but Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the phone. To find you've found another lover to patch up our broken home. Kayleigh, I'm still trying to write that love song, Kayleigh it's more important to me now you're gone. Maybe it'll prove that we were right Or it will prove that I was wrong. cavallino 2 Report post Posted February 27, 2010 A lyrics thread with no mention of Bob Dylan? A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son? Oh, where have you been, my darling young one? I’ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains, I’ve walked and I’ve crawled on six crooked highways, I’ve stepped in the middle of seven sad forests, I’ve been out in front of a dozen dead oceans, I’ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard, And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall. Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son? Oh, what did you see, my darling young one? I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it, I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin’, I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin’, I saw a white ladder all covered with water, I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken, I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children, And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall. And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son? And what did you hear, my darling young one? I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’, Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world, Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin’, Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’, Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin’, Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter, Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley, And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall. Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son? Who did you meet, my darling young one? I met a young child beside a dead pony, I met a white man who walked a black dog, I met a young woman whose body was burning, I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow, I met one man who was wounded in love, I met another man who was wounded with hatred, And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall. Oh, what’ll you do now, my blue-eyed son? Oh, what’ll you do now, my darling young one? I’m a-goin’ back out ’fore the rain starts a-fallin’, I’II walk to the depths of the deepest black forest, Where the people are many and their hands are all empty, Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters, Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison, Where the executioner’s face is always well hidden, Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten, Where black is the color, where none is the number, And I’ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it, And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it, Then I’ll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin’, But I’ll know my song well before I start singin’, And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall. Grabthaw the Hammerslayer 4 Report post Posted February 28, 2010 And not forgetting "Toast" by Street Band - featuring Paul Young before he became Paul Young (if you get my meaning).... Morning all. I’d like to tell you about when I was a young boy. I must have been three or four months old at the time. I didn’t really know what I wanted, and if I did, I wouldn’t have been able to tell anybody, ‘cos all I could do was gurgle. So I sat there in me highchair, thinking one day, looking at me tray and thinking what I’d give for a meal on there. So I started looking round to see what I could have. I was rubbing me eggy soldier in me head, trying to think, and then I looked in the corner and there’s a little breadbin with its mouth open, just staring at me, like. And then I looked in and I saw bread. I thought, oh yeah, I’ll have toast, A little piece of toast. Well, then I started getting older, I hated this, I hated that, Expensive state was ludicrous And cafés couldn’t cater for the finer things in life: The upper crust was not for me, I could tell that. So I’d go back home, Switch the kitchen light on, Put the grill on, Slip a slice under And have toast, A little piece of toast. ‘Cos there’s so much to choose from. There’s brown bread, white bread, All sorts of wholemeal bread; It comes in funny packages With writing on the side, But it doesn’t matter which one you have ‘Cos when you cut the crusts off, Have it with marmalade Or butter, cheese, tomatoes, beans, Banana Or chocolate if you’re strange, It doesn’t really matter. Oh no, it all goes with toast, Just toast. I’m gonna think about it some… That’s toast, mmm yeah, Just toast, That’s toast, Just toast. Well I go down the supermarket With me basket in me hand, I’m walking from one counter to another Trying to find the bread stall, But I can’t find it anywhere And then I bump into a mother With a baby in a basket And she says ‘Oh look, you’ve started him off again, I come down here for a little bit of peace and quiet To get some bread to go home to make toast, Just toast, I like toast’ Yeah, but I don’t half like toast. OK, scrape that toast, boys. That’s toast, Yeah, just toast. [spoken] I can’t think about it any more. I’ve got to go and have some, it’s no good. Here listen, I’m getting a bit browned off standing here. Me too. Shall we go and have some toast? Good idea. Why not? OK. I’ve got the grill on. Got any brown bread? Yeah! Have you got wholemeal bread? Wheatmeal bread? All sorts of toast. Let’s go… (Sounds like they then make some toast in the kitchen)
