dribbler 6 Report post Posted July 8, 2010 Okay, the last two, then my work is done. The Who, at Woodstock http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=m7AHblQ3_oM&feature=related And, Otis, I've Been Loving You Too Long, at Monterey, 1967. A fitting end to my musical outburst. Hauntingly, tear jerkingly, beautiful... http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=YBiUFhYMu2s&feature=related Guys and gals. I know theis has all been posted in the wrong place and that I have been way too self indulgent. But, I love all this stuff. It's all about feel, nuances, significance, and emotion. Yeah, I'm a little lubed, but I know what sounds right and wrong. I hope you felt some of it tonight too.....

On the contrary Sir, it's been great following you, been blasting the wee one out bed - but he knows it's our subliminal way of music education. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2010 I'm crying my eyes out here, allowing myself a Jack D or 8, listening to I'm Alive by Jackson Browne. Such a raw song that hits a few emotions.
Persevere 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2010 John: Glad to know anyone who remembers Nina Simone... Steve: Monterey Pop (1967) was an incredible event, well captured on film. Highlights for me when the film came out: Hendrix, Joplin and Otis. If you haven't seen it, try to catch up with the documentary on STAX Records for dozens of reasons but especially for Mr. Redding. Stephy: When I go for a walk late at night the wind always cries Mary.
dribbler 6 Report post Posted August 2, 2010 I'm crying my eyes out here, allowing myself a Jack D or 8, listening to I'm Alive by Jackson Browne. Such a raw song that hits a few emotions. 'Late For The Sky' always reminds me of 'Taxi Driver' and the build up to the inevitable explosion. Steve: Monterey Pop (1967) was an incredible event, well captured on film. I have the Monterey '67 DVD box set and it's quite magnificent. Yes, the Hendrix set is awesome. It's been so well documented over the years that I have almost taken for granted just how good it was. In a way the whole burning the guitar thing during 'Wild Thing' overshadows what is Jimi at his earliest, most raw and therefore thoroughly enjoyable, warts and all. His rendition of Dylan's 'Like A Rollong Stone' is unique, especially with his bottom 'E' string not being quite pitch perfect. It kind of parallel's with a certain irony Dylan's ultimate shortfall in the vocal department. Joplin's 'Ball And Chain' is mighty.
Medilloni 6 Report post Posted August 17, 2010 Some friends came round last night, they're big into American country music, so over a few beers we spent a while being educated to country (never really looked at it seriously me'self), they came up with a guy that apparently did well on the American Idol series, Bucky covington. I don't know if they're his lyrics, but two of his songs, the lyrics just hit the spot, really hit home... "A Different World" We were born to mothers who smoked and drank Our cribs were covered in lead-based paint No childproof lids No seatbelts in cars Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are Still here we are We got daddy’s belt when we misbehaved Had three TV channels you got up to change No video games and no satellite All we had were friends and they were outside Playing outside It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world School always started the same everyday the pledge of allegiance, then someone would pray not every kid made the team when they tried We got disappointed but that was alright We turned out alright It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world No bottled water We’d drink from a garden hose And every Sunday, All the stores were closed. It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world It was a different life When we were boys and girls Not just a different time It was a different world It was a different world "A Father's Love (The Only Way He Knew How)" For the longest time guess I thought he didn’t give a damn Hard to read, hard to please, yeah that was my old man On the day I left for college, it was nothing new We never had the heart to heart, there was too much to do He checked the air in my tires, the belts and all the spark plug wires He said, “when in hell’s the last time you had this oil changed?” And as I pulled out the drive, he said “be sure to call your mom sometime” And I didn’t hear it then, but I hear it now, He was saying I love you…the only way he knew how. A 120,000 miles, six years down the road A brand new life and a brand new wife and we’d just bought our first home When he finally came to visit, I thought he’d be so proud He never said he liked the place, he just got his tool belt out And put new locks on the doors, went back and forth to the hardware store Said ‘come and hold this flashlight,’ as he crawled beneath the sand These old wires ain’t up to code and that old circuit box is going to overload And I didn’t hear it then, but I hear it now He was saying I love you…the only way he knew how Last Sunday we all gathered for his 65th birthday, I knew he’d stiffen up but I hugged him anyway, When it was finally time to say goodbye I knew what was next, Just like he always does, right before we left… He checked the air in my tires, the belts and all the spark plug wires He said, “when in hell’s the last time you had this oil changed?” And as I pulled out the drive, he said “be sure to call your mom sometime” And I didn’t hear it then, but I hear it now, He was saying I love you, He was saying I love you…the only way he knew how. I'm now a country convert OK. take the p1ss all you like, but I've never heard those times described so well as they are in "A Different World", and the last one is just special. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2010 Nothing wrong with country music. I listen to the old greats all the time, in fact Boxcar Willie is my favourite country music artist.
