So When Will The Button Critics Shut Up?

Recommended Posts

Button will always be seen as he is now.

As long as his style in the car, and his demeanour in general, stay as they are, there will be no change.

The reasons are a simple ones - most people that watch F1 haven't got a ****ing clue what it takes to race a car, will never understand how and why different styles and techniques can achieve the same end, and haven't got a ****ing clue how difficult it is to reach the top of anything other than a flight of ****ing stairs.

The vast majority are looking for another Gilles V, they're looking for the WWF of motor racing, brave buggers that drive on the ragged edge all the time (whoopee, spectacular, but slow, but who cares?). They want overtaking on tap, they want wheel to wheel and crashes, they want entertainment, they want prima donna and vindaloo.

They need evidence that a driver is quick when they watch the car... corrections of the wheel, a bit of sideways here, a locked brake there, hand gestures when they're frustrated, crashing out on trashed tyres 'cos they're too fast for them, arguing about the same piece of tarmac even when everyone can see it was a spur of the moment error.

JB won't ever be seen to be the fastest over a single lap (and imo, I think he's well aware of that), but his skill sets and intelligence will ensure he's capable of more WDC's. The reason I like the guy is simple, he realised a long time ago that the saying,"when the flag drops, the bulls##t stops" applies to the chequered flag, as well as the start.

Oh yeah, another reason I like JB is because he reminds me of Graham Hill - never the fastest driver, and even though he had some of the toughest team mates in history, he still won a couple of WDC's, still owned Monaco, and was still a sportsman.

As long as JB is doing well against faster drivers, I'll enjoy watching most F1 'fans' eating Sh#t. :P

....and his taste in women is sublime :naughty:

Sorry, but you looked so snooklebamerable I couldn't resist.

I think you mean 'snooklebamerisable',- 'snooklebamerable' would be quite a different thing altogether and really not the kind of thing we should be talking about in polite company. Trust you to lower the tone.

Even by those standards Button is underrated - he is one of the most audacious overtakers on track though not too many notice it, and he is the best wet weather driver on the grid, the best since Schumacher.

Another thing about Button is he's a constant learner, he's one of the most improved drivers - and it doesn't happen by accident. I remember him saying in a Top Gear interview when they were discussing a past lap, something like "Oh but I am a better driver now than I was then". And not just as a driver, the switch to Mclaren was smart, a way smarter decision than his past fiascos with Williams and BAR.

I don't think ur right about that. there r lots of good drivers in the wet. Hamster, Nando, Vettel...

Finally some valid points in Button's favour. Yes, his move to McLaren was a good thing, and the way he is handling it deserves some praising. I think his championship skills are more interesting than his race skills.

He got lucky as he wanted to pit right away to remove the egg on his face when Hammy completely whipped his @ss out there in the beginning overtaking him like the punk that he is! Hammy will be fired up now and not take this laying down anymore!

He gambled and he won. You always need a bit of luck to win a Grand Prix but it wasn't like he hadn't a clue about what was going on and he just decided to pit. That idea is completely wrong. SuperHamilton failed on Saturday and then he did a very good job on Sunday. I never liked those over-exuberant words many fans use like whipped his @ss, destroyed, trashed... No way, things are not like that.

I personally thoguht that was a brilliant drive by Button. He destroyed Lewis and kept his head whilst Hammy obviously didn't.

He destroyed Lewis? I thought it had been webber. eusa_think.gif

But, I think that once fans have an opinion on a driver, whether that opinion is for the good or bad, it is very likely not to change desptie whatever the driver does. Clear case for this would be Felipe Massa. I think he's personally a great little driver on his day and has some fantastic drives, but you still ge the same old "he can't drive in the wet" and "he's talentless" comments.

Massa is a good driver, he's not great, and sometimes he drives like the average taxi driver we all carry inside.

Even by those standards Button is underrated - he is one of the most audacious overtakers on track though not too many notice it, and he is the best wet weather driver on the grid, the best since Schumacher.

To say Button is the best wet wheather driver on the grid just underrates others like Kubica, Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso...

You're right but I think the most improved driver is Massa. He soundly lost against Fisichella when they drove along in Sauber. He was outscored by Heidfeld too.

Myth!!!

As far as I know Hamilton didn't want to pit, he had 3rd place in his pocket and was fighting for 2nd. FFS, is a racing driver supposed to work as an engineer from his c#ckpit? Button achieved a great result, he gambled and won. Hamilton failed on saturday but he did a superb job on Sunday and his team and Webber spoiled it.

Yes, agreed completely.

He got lucky as he wanted to pit right away to remove the egg on his face when Hammy completely whipped his @ss out there in the beginning overtaking him like the punk that he is! Hammy will be fired up now and not take this laying down anymore!

Welcome Diego. Good points.

Welcome to the forum. Ham and eggs apart, the fact that LH may have passed JB in the early stages of the race is irrelevant. He was behind the current Champion when it finished. Now go and boil your head in oil!

 Hehehe

Yes again, I agree. Fisi trashed his a##, as you said, I think.

Thankfully we have that in Hammy, and looks like Kobayashi will be the next Gilles! God bless them! ;)

Oh my God.

Please. Do not utter another word. Hamilton is brilliant. But GV he is not.

I hope Lewis is fired up. As it'll make it all the more sweeter for Jens on his next win.

Diego. To quote. 'the punk that he is'

Thats Mr. World Champion punk to you. Thanks!

For those who don't believe Button is the best wet driver on the grid, look at his wet weather performances closely, like his first win, Australia 2010, Malaysia 2009, China 2009.

You know, Hamilton was really tearing up the track behind Button and he was actually catching him, until the team called him to come in and change tires. Just wait till Hamilton finds out that it was Button's engineer who first noted the graining on Hamilton's tyres and suggested a pit stop might be in order. His strategy = Age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

 Indeed. That can be taken two ways. 1. It was a bit of a sneaky call to make or 2. Concern. Nobody wants to see an accident waiting to happen.

He is not the best wet weahter driver on the grid.

HUNGARORING 2006

Australia 2010: Kubica, Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso were all very good. Button didn't outdrive them. He was good too.

Malaysia, and China 2009: Yes, he can drive. The best? No.

I'm biased but I think Alonso excels when the track is drying or wetting, specially on intermediats, but he is not as good as Hamilton, Vettel or Kubica on extreme wet. They're all very good wet weather drivers. Button too.

Button raced a good one, that's for sure. I was mightily impressed with how little wear his tyres showed there at the end.

Lewis also raced a damned fine one too but got suckered into a bad strategy that he should have known wouldn't pay off. Poor boy needs to trust his instincts a bit more and his race engineer a bit less. His on-track racecraft, however, was shockingly masterful. He even impressed Brundle and that's a bit hard to do.

As for the bolded: As far as over-simplifications go, I think that's a good one.

Coudln't agree more, when the track is 50/50 dry/wet, Nando reigns supreme, classic case in point was Euro GP 2007!
