Cav????????????????????????? what?? are you nuts????

It's a fun thought, ain't it?

I'm afraid that you have misinterpreted my post, sir. "You", in this instance, does not refer to you, the poster known as Maure. But I suspect you already know that :P

Wikipedia is very useful, isn't it........

You made me laugh.

no Maure. YOU don't make any sense...

and why do I need to make sense at all with my bloody selection. I vote who I want to!

And why do _I_ need to make any sense...

But I do. It's a curse. The reasoning of your selection was indeed bloody.

I used to be admin of a really popular site a couple of years ago, and completely understand where Bruce comes from.

The grief you get from people is overwhelming at times. I remember one particular member who did nothing but complain about others posts. In the end, I ended up banning him completely from the site as he was causing so many arguments.

There is a lot of things you need to take into consideration if you are going to take a moderators position. Have you the time? Do you think you could warn/ban a friend? Are you willing to be firm with people and can you diffuse a potential or full blown argument? Can you make the right decision when being personally attacked and not rise to the bait? And are you willing to spend the time actually moderating what needs to be moderated? And are you willing to field questions from new and old members, help them have a better experience of foruming?

I may seem over dramatic but that's what I first thought, "oh it can't be that bad surely!" Well let me tell you, its draining and it does take up a lot of your time. Depending on what type of people you're dealing with, it may be a breeze, it may be difficult.

It's not just about the title and the power. I'm sure Brucey has a lot of Sh#t to deal with, as does Eduardo when he's around and Wes too.

Just my two pence worth.

Also, I would like to say if there's going to be another mod, maybe a female would be a good choice. I would like to put Tanita forward.

Whoa whoa! Slow down everybody! I wasn't running for mod. In fact, I am banning myself for any mod position from now until the end of time! I don't want it among other reasons, for those Steph mentioned. I just wished there were a mod the way we used to have in the old times, with Bruce and all that. So, once Bruce accepted to come back I am more than happy with that. I do agree that we need another mod so Bruce can have a life out of TF1 without leaving the Forum unatended. This thread was not intended for nominations but if you want to go that way then it's ok. Just don't count me in :P

I agree. It can be a lot of work and it is crucial to keep one's priorities straight. Does the forum inanity matter sht?

Honestly, pumpdoc, think it over.

I still say that cavallino makes the most hilarious choice but, hey, let's put up a multiple choice poll and vote ourselves a moderator.

Sure, female is good. But, I reckon, Tanita will shy away from it. Perhaps I'm wrong.

How about you, my friend?

Ok. You are hereby nominated.

Nominating regular posters for the position is not a good idea in terms of improving the forum, the names I've heard mentioned are much more valuable to this forum as regular posters than they would be as mods (who need to be a little less involved in posting if they want to stay fair, imo).

It is a good point. Whoever owns TF1 could hire some outsider.

However, any experience with moderation (from blogs to newspapers) easily yields that arbitrary censorship is pervasive. In other words, moderation is futile unless you want a tune to dance to.

The only known solution to the problem is the "right" kind of mobbing which basically means the "right" kind of collective bias by the community itself. Now consider what "right" means in this forum... amusing, ain't it?

So I nominate you.

Quite right. And why the male/female issue here? I'd think "20 year old who still lives with her parents" would count more to describe my knowledge of the world in general... Anyway, I would suck as a moderator because I'm too soft. I'm one of those people who dance to (insert name here)'s tune by ignoring posts that I don't like XD

I agree. Maybe that's why Steph thought of me, I mostly just read and lurk and don't contribute a lot of insightful thoughts XD But man, you go on holiday for 3 days and you get nominated for president mod here, woow :P

No.

One of the reasons I've found this place so much fun to post at IS the freedom. Here you can make comments that elsewhere it'd be a warning straight away or even a ban. Forums are around people to "discuss", and everyone should be allowed to say what they want, within reason.

Really, even without any moderation at this place recently, there's been nothing that I think would deserve a ban or whatever. Sure, there are a couple of posters I don't see eye-to-eye with and sure, the way they come across sometimes annoys me. But really, I don't think they are doing anything that bad compared to what you lot had to put up with the way myself and Eric acted a few years back.

Clearly, there are people here who are passionate about certain issues, I'm likewise. For me this place is great to come to to discuss a big interest I have in Formula One, as unfortunately at school, there are not many people who share my interest. It's great you can get involved with banter with other members and not have to self censor what you really want to say too much.

That's my thoughts. I think this place is fine how it is. But if we are to have a new moderator, my nomination goes to Eric.

Yes. As someone with nearly 6 years experience running message boards, I believe that good moderation would get this forum back on track again.

I see your point George dude but have to disagree.

The way I see it, if somebody new came in, they'd just read the rules and start issuing warnings and banning people, deleting threads, etc. I think we need somebody who knows the way the place works, who has a good measure of people and their personalities and who can make a decision based on the above. For example, we know what Maure is like. Controversial, outspoken, and doesn't give a rats arse about what people think of him. A new to the site moderator would perhaps ban him (Maure, keep it shut lol), whereas most of us value his input as proven in his thread when he was away and we were fearing the worst. A member who knows the place would be able to differentiate when Maure is offering opinion or if he really stepped over the mark. People would less be likely to take to a new to the site moderator, as it'd mostly be a case of "Well, I've been here five years before you so don't you go telling me......" and blah blah blah. I've seen it happen.

Tanita, I chose you because I think you are fair, and have the respect of absolutely everyone here. I've never seen you argue ever, and I think you can be quite firm when needs be. People would respect your decision, and you would be fair about it, explaining why and how.

Maure, like I said before, I've done it all. I lost friends through it and I don't want to lose friends again. The difference between I and most posters is that I distance myself quite easily from friends in a situation where I have to warn or ban, and that is quite cold. I think its from my years as a manager.

Again, my tuppence worth. Sorry George but like I said I do see your point.

I take your point. It's important to know the dynamics of the forum and the people so we understand the context of what they say to each other. Which is why pumpdoc (who doesn't post that much but knows the place and people well) is just fine.

I dislike the idea of forum moderation. People should be free to be themselves and shine or tarnish as they see fit. Problem is, this site belongs to Wes and is an extension of a product/service that he provides so we need some sort of moderation. It's a tough job but I trust Bruce with it. Strangely, I'd also trust Cav with it. If Bruce has the time and the willpower for it, I'd be happy to see him take up his former moderation duties. Perhaps it's a shared cultural thing, but I like his moderation style.
