Vettel'S Lead Over Webber In Final Qualifying.

Recommended Posts

1.- 0.8 seconds a lap slower when last year he was just 0.1 seconds a lap slower

2.- last year Red Bull team wasn't Webber's home since Turkey, front wing and all

3.- In normal circumstances, first race of the year no team would voluntarily throw away so many points

4.- Too early to think Webber isn't going to beat Vettel as he did a few times last year.

5.- Webber won't feel at home in Red Bull this season through

Yep. Some people have already made their conclusion, once that happens, any "evidence" just gets interpreted to fit that conclusion. Not that I have any sympathy for them, but Red Bull and Vettel can't win from that perspective.

Yes, this is true. Some people do this.

However, some people are better able to extrapolate future events using very little present information.

Interpretation: Some people get luckier with their guess work!

Vettel has KERS issues while Webber's car is fine, he has had limited running due to his crash but he is still faster. Just for the record. We'll see what the rest of the weekend brings.

Webber's car was in better shape than Seb's, and Seb still pasted him. Not looking all that good for Mark at the moment.

They have the same car this season but it is custom made for Vettel

Actually, Mark has more of the newer parts on his car, and his KERS was working, I don't believe Seb's was.

massa and alonso have the same car, but massa couldn't fight for Q2 just on hard tyres, he had to use soft during Q1, while alonso made it on hard tyres cause car probably suits him better.RedBull's plans for future are made around vettel, they made it clear many times so it is normal that they focused their atention towards him. i believe that last year red bull had more neutral car and Vettel'S Lead Over Webber In Qualifying was more because of driving skill and was more realistic.this gap now isn't realistic. they didn't even knew will webber drive for them in 2011 and they didn't care.webber could end up in FAcustom.madeFerrari F151° next year.

Ugh please... What happened in Turkey last year should let anyone who hasn't got an axe to grind just how committed RBR are to allowing their drivers to race. The fact is, that many people don't seem to wish to face, that Seb is simply doing a better job with his equipment than Mark. There is no way a team would purposely make one car half a second faster than the other.

As for Massa... He simply wasn't fast enough, that's why he went out on the softs. Nothing to do with the team favouring Alonso, remember he has been allowed to finish ahead of Alonso in 2 races this season.

Why is Vettel faster than Webber this year in general...maybe because of things like this...

http://www.totalf1.com/full_story/view/376317/Vettel_Used_DRS_Before_Third_Apex_Of_Turn_8/

so...Close examination of Sebastian Vettel’s DRS (Drag Reduction System, or c#ckpit-adjustable rear wing flap) use during his superb Istanbul pole lap reveals his astonishing feel for grip and harmony at the daunting Turn 8 corner – in the dry, at any rate.

He crashed heavily at Turn 8 in the wet on Friday, missed all of FP2 and was then instantly quick in FP3 in the rebuilt RBR7. And then he was confident enough with his car and for his feeling for the surface of the road to take Turn 8′s third apex “flat” – in both senses of the word.

No team favourism, just pure skill :D

Nice one Andres thbup.gif That video was one of the things that was talked over by the person I was watching with, I'd completely forgot about looking for it.

Anyway, it's great to see the very fine distinctions which can make such a large gap and the small differences in driving style. Vettel is clearly on great form and has exceptional precision in his driving. Webber just needs to step it up, if he can.

I hope the Beeb continue to do this feature.

To me - it really doesn't appear that Mark has much to complain about - hence he isn't complaining.

A bit unlucky with his KERS issues in the first 2 races, but hey - that's life.

He needs to get his head down and out qualify Vettel. He knows it - shame a small minority of his supporters don't.

Oh bummer, I didn't get to see the side by side video as it's taken down already.

Webber knows he's been outclassed at the moment and that's why he's quiet. We've all seen Webber moan away when he thinks he's been hard done by, so his silence right now reveals more than his words do. Simply he's being beaten on the track by Vettel.

It's a good point. Thing is, if Mark can get podiums and second places, although he won't like the fact he isn't winning, someone has to be the quicker driver. It won't be a problem to Red Bull. It's when a slower driver starts throwing toys or looking glum that there position gets called into question.

i am not trying to diminish vettel's driving or deny your post, but there were many statements on james allen blog during winter testing about RBR's abilty to run DRS in corners and places where their competition only can dream about it.

true, which is why i bolded the bits where the author tells of skill. Why can't Mark do it was my point. Too on the edge?

he is on pressure and forced to risk and push to the limit, and make mistake.i saw that qualy video of him and vettel, and most advantage that vettel gained was not at Turn 8 corner, but through few corners webber was driving too wide when he was entering them and then losing speed on exit.

In its initial form, this component required a very specific driving technique to maximise the time on open throttle - which increased the downforce boost from the exhaust plume - and Webber was superb at it, consistently squeezing just that little bit more from it than his team-mate.

Vettel continued to be better at living with a little bit of entry oversteer, and that ability to adapt to the car moving around him was maybe partly why he was not as insistent on adapting his technique to a feature that calmed the rear end as soon as you got on the throttle.

From Valencia onwards however, the Renault engine was running software that retarded the ignition off-throttle, using the extra heat created to maintain exhaust flow to the diffuser even off-throttle.

Suddenly that downforce boost was there even during braking and Webber's specialised technique was no longer required. That improvement, in other words, took away a key Webber advantage. link

So initially Webber was helped by utilising a specific component (and was superb at it) and everybody marvel at what a good driver he was/is. Suddenly the same component assisted Vettel's driving style and everybody cried foul. According to this article, although Webber being "assisted" for most of last year, Vettel was still considered the fastest of the 2. So Vettel is really better than I think he is.... :P

it wasn't my intention to say that vettel isn't good driver, i can't stand his finger though . he is faster than webber, last year and this year, but this year gap is bigger . so everybody was asking why? this thread was made to try to find answer, like many similar threads in other forums.
