Shadow 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2004 From Planet-F1.com Bernie: 'Points for qualy but ballot for grid' Saturday September 04 2004 Bernie Ecclestone is still pushing for a new qualifying format but he doesn't wants it to bare any impact on the race's starting grid. As the teams continue to toss around various suggestions for a new system, Ecclestone's latest idea is probably one of the more bizarre. And it's likely to be met with raised eyebrows instead of heaps of praise. "What I'm trying to do is have points for qualifying. If you are quick, you get rewarded for that and then start the race on a ballot," he told The Sun. "Maybe the guy that's been quickest might find himself at the back of the grid, that would liven things up for sure. But then you get the drivers saying it's not fair." Ecclestone did admit, though, that it's not only the Saturday bores that are causing headaches for those in the paddock, as F1's fans are also growing tired of the lack of overtaking during the races. "We are going to try and get harder tyres and make it easier for people to overtake. We know what's wrong but not what's right," the F1 supremo said. The Brit also took a pot at the Jaguar team, who have failed to ignite F1. "They shouldn't be there. Jaguar should at least be competitive," he said, adding that although "McLaren have had a lousy year" they have at least "looked competitive." Whew!!!!That's something. Senna 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 only one main problem in F1: Cost. Screw the bond, cap budgets at 200 mil. Such a measure is very difficult to implement and set at that level, it would still be around four times greater than the budgets of the smallest teams so it wouldn
AutoRacer5 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 Cost is the source of many problems, but all you have to do is get heavy auditors on the case. Besides, the lower teams could run as normal, the big teams would have to heavily downsize, which could hurt their performance.
nichosnz 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2004 Auditor 'piffttt', Accountants and their predecessors have been hiding money for thousands of years, very easy to do. One obvious way is to have staff employed by the road car division but do work for the race team in the road car factory. One way of thousands, right from simple (as with the example) up to complicated and devious.
