It doesn't look that easy against real cars and drivers. Vettel's car still looks superb. Great job Button so far.

Great race. Sad that you have to put Vettel's RB8 at the back to have it. Sad for Hamilton too but that's racing, it's worse when you're leading and with good rythm.

Kimi, a deserved victory. Alonso an absolutely great race, not enough but in the fight up to the chequered flag.

Very good race Vettel but a couple of SC and clipping his FW twice without major consequences helped him a lot. Button did a great job against a much faster car.

The rest, that's why they're the rest, right?

That was brilliant.

I've always liked this track, actually, in the same way I like a lot of other tracks that no one likes. This was a good one.

I think that it just shows you the kind of team Red Bull and Vettel are, that they can have an awful weekend and end up only losing 3 points to Alonso and 9 points to Ferrari in the already-decided WCC. They certainly had good breaks in the race, but that's part of it.

A few more laps and Alonso gets Räikkönen...a few more laps and Vettel gets them both...but we didn't even need a few more laps because that was a very good race as it was. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to see Alonso setting fastest laps and closing the gap to Räikkönen. I would have loved for him to get in the DRS threshold on lap 54; the straight-line speed of the Ferrari was making a huge difference at the time and ti would have been a big advantage.

Glad to see eight winners from six teams this year, too. Just when you think Vettel will never lose again... :P

I still consider it reasonable for Vettel to lock this up in Elroy, but you really just don't know this year, and that's been great.

Two other things:

Button was very gentlemanly in letting Vettel through for third. That's such a treacherous spot to have a DRS zone end, which makes it awesome, but Button did the right thing. Vettel had him, and damn, that was a great overtake. I think that's the thing I've noticed most with Vettel this year. There's been a ton of criticism that "Vettel is boring" or "Vettel doesn't overtake" and really that's just a consequence of winning pole all the time. This year, I've seen him make some great passes, and finish off some DRS overtakes with a real flourish. I'm impressed.

And because we I to have something to say about the stewards, I felt Pérez wasn't the guy who deserved that penalty. Maybe because I was just in awe that he almost made it, but I felt that he re-entered safely and gave room to Grosjean, who got over-opportunistic. FIA saw that differently, oh well.

One of my favorites this year for sure.

Q: "Kimi, how do you feel after this race"

A: "Disappointed. A win in a country with no alcohol? FML!"

Three other things:

1. Räikkönen's radio transmissions amuse me to no end. In F1, he's the bluntest; when he was in NASCAR, he was the politest. :P

2. Schumacher's puncture on the safety car denied him some points. I hope it rains in Brazil because that will be his only chance of ending this comeback well.

3. Pérez has not scored a single point since announcing his move to McLaren. If he had made that pass work, I would have declared him the 2013 WDC, but he didn't.

the post-race little conference told it all did'nt it...Alonso sitting alone minding his own business, wondered what went thru his mind....hhhmmmmm

Ahhh...now I see how a fan's brain works! Living in denial! :P

Both Ale and myself said Kimi deserved this race (had you bothered to read!) Read our posts you SebsastianKimisteric!!

Alonso was the first to congratulate with a big smile not just Kimi, but Vettel as well and that taking in consideration that he is usually more exhasuted that the other drivers at the end of each race (which explains much of his gloomliness)

BTW...no mention of Vettel's pit radio? Hehehehe :P

This race was a mix of epic moments, amateurs night and 'pick the funniest radio message' contest.

Kimi's exchanges were hilarious.Too bad they don't broadcast the press conference here :(

You mean this one?

Vettel radio: tell that idiot of Ricciardo that he has to move over!!! Is he not working for The Team?

RBR radio: Seb, you're under Safety Car procedure!!!

There was some kind of poltergeist moment on my TV so I couldn't hear it literally.

Hehehehehehehehehehehe...

Brad, was Ricciardo or Vergne who moved over to let Vettel go past? The stewards surely showed Toro Rosso blue flags by mistake when Vettel was behind them, right? Ahem... :P

Race of the year! This race felt like we went back to the start of the year with the amount of amateur driving going on all over the field. But it's great for Kimi and Lotus, and definitely about time. Kimi is pure gold in entertainment value biggrin.png

On Vettel: what I actually said is that if he wants to prove himself, he has to do it and this kind of race is an opportunity. So did he prove himself? No, not exactly. At least, he made two mistakes, one which was a clumsy sort of racing incident but still a position he shouldn't have been in, and the other a rather critical blunder. Not that we haven't seen those exact mistakes from every other driver at one point or another wink.png The worrying thing about Vettel/Red Bull for me and presumably Alonso, is that even on a day where he was not at 100%, he still came from the pitlane(!) to the podium. And, more worrying, if he's still improving (I think he is), without the mistakes maybe he would been even further up there. Overall, for a guy who the jury can't quite decide on, he still got an amazing result here.

The after race psychology and personal relationships are always really interesting to see. Clearly, all three drivers respect each other but you can tell Vettel and Raikkonen share the same sense of humour whereas Alonso really isn't interested!

Yup. Alonso is anything but a witty talker. If these guys would ever take a job as commentators (like so many other former f1 drivers) I wouldn't bet on Alonso being the funniest of the lot. He is one of the nicest guys, albeit very competitive (apparently as per other drivers comments), but certainly would never be a character as funny as Kimi (also, and even more surprisingly, considered one of the nicest around the paddock) and Vettel (which seems not to be much cherished in the paddock but certainly is way more charismatic in public than any of the others)

About the race: WTF with Webber? He was AWFUL! Clumsiest piece of driving I've seen in a long time.

Usually the worst drivers make the best commentators. They tend to be more observant of things other than themselves, I guess, or just had to have a good attitude to last in such a competitive place. I think of all my favorite drivers-turned-commentators, and none of them accomplished a whole lot. :P

But more interesting than driver personalities for me are race personalities, and this one had a good one. Sepang, Barcelona, Montréal, Valencia, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Budapest, and Abu Dhabi were, in chronological order, all highlights for me this year. 8 out of 18. That's about as good of a season as you can possibly have!

@Andres: Yeah, I think Alonso is just shy, more than anything. It probably helps him to be so competitive/focussed to not socialise too much with other drivers (although I am sure he does have some friends in the paddock). I disagree about Vettel, though, I think he is pretty well liked in the paddock, at least that's the impression I get from the English coverage... could be a different impression elsewhere for various reasons.

Anyway, this combination of drivers on the podium is probably my favourite possible combination, and I'm glad they delivered on the podium interview too laugh.png Did anyone think that Vettel only swore to copy and try to impress Kimi? tongue.png You'll never be as cool, Seb!

Edit: Oh, and yeah Webber was driving like a rookie. But he did at least "scare" Massa into that spin which was funny (I told you Massa was psychologically weak whistling.gif)

A though race, but what a race! At the end is no surprise the better performer drivers of the weekend were WC! The rest -many with some pretty fast cars like Perez, Massa, Grosjean, Webber!- were a mistake collection! Hey Mr. Perez this is F1 not Gokart!!!!!!!

Kimi did a perfect job so as Nando and Lewis; Seb did an splendid but not perfect job, For me the kind of race of Seb trying to fight and go as fast as he can and even more sometimes puts in perspective the great job Nando is doing along the year. He race every race in the same way Seb did it today but with less mistakes...

The 5 WC have and edge over the rest of the pack, even MSC long time ago a former driver. The rest can match their speed but not their skills over a single race or a season.

Gotta be happy for Kimi, well deserved. I have to admit I was cursing at the tv (well, actually the net stream since am travelling and have no tv) when the second SC came, taking away his 10 second lead, but was then equally mightily impressed by his blistering laps right after the SC came to pits to secure his victory.

Great drive from Vettel too, people may say he got lucky with the safety cars, but it's good to keep in mind that even without the last safety car he would have finished at least 4th, very impressive already. Also, he ended up dead last during the first SC so it didn't help him as much as it could've (even though you could argue he had somewhat himself to blame for that). The benefit he got was essentially a two stop race with just a one stop delay, except wrt. Button. From Button's point of view Seb certainly got two free pit stops with no time penalty, which allowed him to pass Jenson.

Can't fault Alonso's driving either, 6th to 2nd with a great overtake on Webber. These three, plus Hamilton, truly have been the cream of the crop this year.

I thought the "Yes, yes, yes. I know what I am doing" was pretty good too

On the subject of radio messages, it was nice to hear Lewis asking if the drivers were ok in the Rosberg/Karthikeyan incident. I presume all the drivers must ask this if they see a big accident, but we don't normally get to hear it.
