Why Merc would prefer Nico than Lewis for 2016 Title?

I wish that I would understand what's the problem in here. Surely there is no secret that occasionally teams have limited amount of new parts, and in that case only one car gets those, as decided by management, and then cars are prepared by default differently. Why would anyone deny that? That would make no sense.

This forum, as at other places, however claimed more than once that teammates have exactly the same cars, and that, as I reasoned a few posts back, is a myth on physical grounds. There is no such thing as exactly the same cars under any circumstances, despite that for nominal reasons, and keeping conversation going, people do refer to those as such.
