McLaren set to divorce from Honda

7 September 2017   11:51 (CEST)  -  Optics suggest that front teams on the grid operate on a sizable budget which is unavailable to McLaren. If so, than, why not to accept that McLaren is a tier two entity with peers like Force India, Williams and alike, and learn to live within those means, which includes realization that they cannot afford some drivers who demand EUR 30 - 40 MM+.

a sizeable budget is unavailable to McLaren due to the lack of any meaningful result in recent years. With an f1 PU on the back of their cars, rather than an F2 PU, they hope to revive the fortunes of the firm, it won't be easy but at least now they can have some hope whereas with Honda the only certainty that they had was that they did not stand a chance

The BIGGEST mistake Mclaren CAN do is to DOVORCE Honda.
RedBull ARE sniffing around, get the PU in Torro Rosso THEN
When it looks good - FULL RedBull Racing team

Mclaren brought Honda back.
See it through.
Torro Rosso & RedBull ARE Renault. They ARE looking to Honda.
Suggests to me Renault NOT the way to go.

STAY with Honda & be rewarded in the Long term

Fernando Alonso has removed all references to the Woking outfit from his social media accounts and website - Zak Brown (groan) has revealed that from 2021 the team could build its own engines.

Cosworth in 2021?

Well... the divorce is set and done... Don´t underestimate Renault Technology, they are following a plan, and the results are there... Mclaren chassis is good, they just need a better engine to be a better team and shake over the pressure, Honda needed a new team to work with too... In about two years, Renault and Mclaren will be fighting for the wins... you will see.
