radical-one 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2018 McLaren performance points to 'not so great car' - Marko ©McLaren Phillip van Osten12/04/2018 at 15:10 Helmut Marko believes McLaren would be hard pressed to claim - like it did last year - that its chassis is the best on the grid given its poor performance to date. Before the season kicked off, Fernando Alonso said the Woking-based outfit would target Red Bull Racing at the outset in 2018 as the two teams are powered by the same Renault engine. While McLaren's level of performance has improved, its drivers are nowhere near snapping at the heels of the Milton Keynes squad's chargers. Even worse, McLaren could not rival the pace of Toro Rosso in Bahrain, the team which took on its batch of "weak" Honda engines. Alonso hoping 'to pull the whole package together' in Shanghai "Mr Alonso wanted to attack Red Bull but he was behind the Toro Rosso," Red Bull motorsport boss Marko told Auto Motor und Sport. "The McLaren cannot be that great and it was not just the Honda engine that made them slow -- they are still last on the straight with the Renault," he added. Marko, whose Red Bull outfit is considering switching from Renault to Honda for 2019, joins those who think McLaren made a strategic error late last year by ditching the Japanese manufacturer. "They not only lost an engine that is getting better and better, they also gave up a lot of money," he said. McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne believes Red Bull remains a good benchmark for his team, regardless of how it has performed so far in 2018. "No matter what engine you have in the car, you're always under pressure in Formula 1," said the Belgian. "We have clearly identified Red Bull as a reference point so it makes sense to be compared with them. "But we are only at the beginning of the season, so we have to wait a bit for the arrival of new parts to see exactly where we are in the hierarchy."
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2018 SVD McLaren are LAST, even the Honda Toro Rosso is FASTER !!
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2018 What now, where 2 go ??? Mclaren R in a MESS Ron brought Honda BACK into F1. But Ron sold up and LEFT McLaren, well strangely he WERE booted OUT Where do McLaren go NOW ?? Mclaren DUMPED the Honda MILLIONS to keep Alonso. So they signed race winning Renault. Their car is STILL last and the SLOWEST. Ron ALWAYS preferred WORKS status, but they are NOW a Renault CUSTOMER. RedBull likely to take the Honda GLORY that Ron worked to get for McLaren. The solution as I see it IS, to do something different, which is what they attempted to do AFTER losing the Mercedes WORKS status, when Mercedes BOUGHT Brawn. They/Ron convinced Honda to come back. I would like to see them, bring Cosworth BACK into F1. Works status & FREE PU

Mclaren delivered Alonso a race WINNING PU, to KEEP Alonso. Whilst the Renault IS, at it`s limit in the development cycle - no where really for it to go. Honda CAN make a LOT of GAINS. But with THOSE gains WILL come, a LOT of DNF`s. It IS those DNF`s that WILL lose Alonso. His infamous, GP2 comment. It were a strategic move by McLaren, to KEEP their BIGGEST asset (Alonso). Alonso is NOW regularly picking up points. Points win prizes. Red Bull`s B team TR is NOW picking up the DNF`s. Whilst Honda sorts itself out
Master of his game 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2018 I think the toro rosso s DNF today was not due to the engine. It's due to the inexperience of their drivers. Honda is getting better and better. It's just the conditions didn't suit them today
radical-one 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2018 TR needs a much competitive and experienced driver. Two rookies cannot help with it's development.
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2018 By all accounts the, fly-away McLaren powered by Renault WERE a QUICK solution to something 2 run, after the final decision were made to DUMP Honda. When return to Europe. Mclaren INTEND To PUSH and hope to have something to CHALLENGE. Mclaren HAS built THIS next release UP, and they CONTINUE to maintain THAT theory, if not MORE. As a McLaren fan (I HAVE been a guest of Ron Dennis at the MTC) . I HOPE that they DO have something to CHALLENGE

They HAVE made a stance, NOT going 2 DEVALUE the Mclaren name and heritage. They ALSO have to PAY $100`s MILLIONS for a PU. NOT being a works TEAM
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2018 I may NOT B a rocket scientist but. If on LAST years car (Mclaren Honda-2017) The ONLY problem were the Honda PU. Y CAN`T just drop the Renault PU in THAT, and make it fit !!! Mclaren CLAIMED that it WERE 1 of the BEST chassis on the grid, let down by the Honda PU I AM aware that the Honda had a different approach to the turbo, coolin etc But McLaren CLAIMED it to B 1 of the BEST chassis on the grid - PROVE it !! lipstick79 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2018 Like I said, I may NOT B a rocket scientist but NEITHER are ANY of the current Mclaren design crew Another updated chassis, ANOTHER failure Have gone from the WORST PU on he grid. REPLACED it with, a race WINNING PU (Renault). To the WORST Renault powered team. CAN`T blame the PU anymore. How about taking some crayons to the local primary school, and getting some school kids to draw(design) the next McLaren It will NOT B worse than currently paying ££MILLIONS££ in salary for. . lipstick79 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2018 Currently a battle brewing between the factory Renaults and the McLaren F1 team - powered by Renault. Is this really progress ?? It is better than the years of DNF`s with the Honda project, who incidentally are NOW completing with Torro Rosso. Which is an improvement, though there is NO speed/performance YET. Just reliability. Which is what U get with the Renault. Though Red Bull ARE making it work for THEM.
