lipstick79 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2018 It were supposed to be the answer to, Mercedes dominance. But Honda`s return to F1 with McLaren, did NOT produce. McLaren gave it time, and gave it more time. But it STILL did NOT produce. Red Bull QUICKLY jumped on board, with TR. To afford Honda the appropriate time, in anticipation THAT Honda WILL come good. However it appears that Red Bull do not, have the FAITH. Announcing a new tie-up with Aston Martin, to get their foot in the door.
BradSpeedMan 6 Report post Posted January 3, 2018 Dominance usually occurs in periods of 4 years. Merc had their time. Although Merc will still be a frontrunner, I expect more of a level playing field with RBR and Ferrari
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2018 Interesting theory, THOUGH The Renault PU, IS regarded amongst the BEST - CONFIRMED with UR RBR expectation McLaren HAVE dumped Mercedes, dumped Honda TO JUMP onboard the Renault power train
Sakae 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2018 3 January 2018 18:41 (CET) I am not sure it is correct characterization that McLaren "dumped" Mercedes. It was more of timely indecision by Anglo-American management, which later necessitated in accepting whatever was available (Renault). Renault used to be a top notch engine builder when Prost/Frenzen/Jack V. were racing. In new era, they were however slightly behind Ferrari and MB in a season past. Quote But Wolff told ESPN, “We wanted to give McLaren an engine, the problem is that it (acceptance) dragged on for a long time and (at the end) we just didn’t have the structure in place and the capacity to supply them an engine for 2018. It was simply too late.” Clearly McLaren was late and MB could not expand their production anymore in time left. Why McLaren was late? One would have to ask Brown. RBR is a special case; simply put, not too many engine suppliers wants to work with Mr. Horner, so it appears in first instance, and in second instance, who wants to lift up his rivals? Both MB and Ferrari need to carry budgets and workforce for PU and vehicle development, whereas well off RBR merely for vehicle. That's not fair fight, as RB would end up having best of both worlds. Mercedes wanted heir OWN "works" team, Ron would NOT sell OUT so Mercedes BOUGHT Brawn GP. Ron "dumped" Mercedes for the BIG picture - Honda, which ultimately FAILED. My comment and quote by Wolff is most current one, when McLaren was searching for Honda's replacement. What he was saying is that MB would have come to the rescue and this year McLaren could have driven with Mercedes, replacing Honda, had Brown choose to sign papers in timely fashion. Renault had spare production capacity, and jumped in when invited. MB would had to expand theirs, that was main difference from operations point of view, which is why he needed longer lead time over Renault.
lipstick79 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2018 IF Brown HAD signed Mercedes in time, WOULD always B comparisons DIRECTLY to Ron Dennis` McLaren (MP4...). Zak IS doin it HIS way At THIS time. Sakae 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2018 You can't have it NOW. Starting strong is must, but races end later in a year, and it remains to be seen who can live with 3 engines, and whether development will measure up to competition. It might, it might not. Come back in September.
