Ferrari appears competitive at this stage of the season, which gives me hope next race in Baku will end up on a high note for Sebastian. It hasn't been lost on me how calm and collected my driver was after the last incident.

Yea, interesting session. ESPN did not broadcast it. A few observations:

1. It appears that the Ferraris had the edge in qualifying over the Mercedes, with Raikkonen setting two purple sectors before muffing it in turn 16. I gather that could have been pole position and a Ferrari 1-2.

2. Hamilton was 0.16 seconds faster than his teammate. He doesn't seem that demoralized.

3. Ferrari and Mercedes clearly had the edge over Red Bull in qualifying. We will see if those relationships remain in race trim.

4. The top three teams (not counting Raikkonen's time) were 1 to 1.5 seconds faster than the Tier 2 teams.

5. Ocon continues to impress.

6. Williams is already bouncing back?

7. Leclerc's time stands out, compared to his teammate.

This was too close for comfort.

Quote

It was a moment that left F1 fans around the world – not to mention those on the Toro Rosso pit wall – with their hearts in their mouths. And Pierre Gasly has admitted that he thought he was going to have a huge accident when, travelling at over 300km/h, he suddenly came across slow-moving team mate Brendon Hartley during qualifying in Azerabijan on Saturday.

Nice recovery for Seb after gray results of Friday.

Yes lovely stuff!!!!

Pity about Kimi's mistake at turn 16, could have been another front row lockout for Ferrari!

Sorry that Lewis was having a problem in sector 2, because he stood a chance at winning pole position.

.The mistake that Kimi made at turn 16 cost him the pole, which although as a Hamilton fan I would liked to have seen.

I suspect as the season wears on.....the McLaren Renaults will regularly outperform the Honda cars.

Although I feel we cannot compare McLaren and toro rosso simply because McLaren has better driver In Alonso and toro rosso s drivers are just rookies. If alonso was not driving McLaren I think toro rosso would be ahead in the constructors. So it's not fair to compare.  If redbull buys the Honda engine then we will really know.

Sad day. Seb must be devasted.

He's not the only one! What the hell?

Let's face it, those Red Bull boys were revving up for what happened all race, no one can have been that shocked when they ended up doing what they did. I felt bad for Seb, after the safety car he had to try and get by Bottas the way he did. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, Perez getting by him only added insult to injury for me. Though as I type this Perez is under investigation for illegal DRS use earlier in the race, so who knows what will happen.

I'm not a fan of Bottas but that puncture was cruel for him. Raikkonen was almost plum last after his first lap incident and he finished second, it's crazy I tell you, crazy!!!   I'm just glad I saw this one live and didn't just get highlights!

Verstappen is ripe to sit a race or two just to calm down, not that DR was all that clean either.

I feel sorry for Gasly. Charles bugger his qualifications attempts, then both had almost terrible clash due to Charles driving in slow speed on a racing line (Pierre was moving around him at 300km +), and to top miserable pre-race events, Kevin Mag. took a swing into him in a race and instead likely P7 (from P17) our thereabout Pierre ended up in P12.

What a day, what a weekend.
