This session starts on February 23 and is mainly held behind closed doors.

Why? I can make several plausible guesses of reasons behind this decision,  none of them however would pleased Liberty.

If AM flops again, I would not be surprised if this will be Seb' last year.

Probably.
The AM HAS 2 B challengin regularly 4 race wins.
What has Seb got left 2 prove - that he CAN win in a non-Newey designed car.

Wrong.

Newey did not design Ferrari, yet Vettell won against RB.If you want to defame someone, find a better line of reasoning.

1 race is NOT a championship.
The point I AM makin is regularly winning in a non-Newey car.
Even crashdor maldonado can win 1 race.

Wrong again. Vettel won 14 races for Ferrari which, considering that car, is a decent record. Ask Alonso about his time at Ferrari. Maybe he can explain to you facts of life. Not everybody is afforded protected luxury car #44 enjoyed.

Let me get this straight what kind of conditions teams will face once testing begins:

  • New specs. (Design has not been validated on the track).
  • Less time is permitted for testing in a wind tunnel through the season.
  • Pre-season track testing is shorter this season. (I didn't think it was possible, but they managed).
  • Restrictive regulations on in-season corrective work continue to hamper rate of recovery (if that at all will be possible).
  • Impact of budgetary restrictions is self explanatory. (Materials, human resources)
  • Jammed calendar will place cars on the road, not really available for some meaningful work in a factory.

These conditions are precursor to real mess, and potentially fatal blow for some teams. Leading drivers like Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, and one or two others aren't all that sure that developments lead to improvements F1 is seeking.

My solution? Easy. Let German manufacturers run F1 (technical and sporting sections). Award TV broadcast rights and paddock reporting to somebody else. Fairness and sensibility would return to its rightful place.

It`s a triangle with the hypotenuse at the front breakin the air.
With the opposite and adjacent sides, the left and right sides of the chassis.
It is not very efficient - it smashes into the air.

How about...

The standard front wing directs air staight into the iair intakes, while additional airflow follows the curve along and below the sidepods to the diffuser area.

That is 1 interpretation.
It obviously smashes in2 the air FIRST then, front wing directs air staight into the iair intakes ...
NOT very stream line.

Mercedes "absolutely desperate" to test "very, very different car"

That's what I mean. Panic is settling in. People simply don't know what that multi-million device will do. My guess is, MB is not alone living in doubts.

The headline sounds like a good excuse for Hamilton, should he falter later, when finger-pointing starts.

You convert everything on this site into some marketing ploy. Ploy or not, the thing needs to run fast and reliably when lights go off on a start line. I will suggest to you, that next to scheming and propaganda, MO in marketing, there are real people in this world who do their best to make something nice and useful in life, and they do worry over a project with loose ends.

Thanks for sharing, but at one time this was GP racing first, and the other stuff was just tagging along. Beats me at which point marketing and accounting took over and made out of GP whatever we have today.

Simple answer.  Bernie opened the door.  Red Bull and sponsors came IN.
Tobacco advertisin got banned - even though Marlboro STILL in the sport with their mission winnow product.
Red Bull had a fizzy drink they needed the world 2 see.
So bought their way in 2 the sport.

Barretto is predicting:

Quote

Four world champions will finish inside the top six in the drivers’ standings

Prediction with a lot of faith in trust that all cars will be capable.

In contrast, I would like to know what testing will tell us. If I however see Seb again in "excellent" position P16, then I would not put too much of faith in Barretto's wisdom.

I think what we learned from midfield last year is, that once cars are very similar of strength and in performance, then external conditions begin creeping in how they score. Yellow flag ruins your qualification, wet/dry patches, track temp. fluctuations, unfortunate strategies, etc. The usual stuff.

Based on predictions that cars will be very close in performance, something I personally doubt, this might be a season when it will take longer into a season before dust settles, and pecking order emerges.
