'we Won't Win' - Webber

Recommended Posts

Williams' 2005 car is not capable of winning the Australian grand prix, Mark Webber has admitted for the first time. He told Australian media that, as well as still feeling concerned about reliability, the BMW-powered FW27 is behind 'in pace.

"It's not really realistic to say 'we're going to win Melbourne'. We've been aggressive but we thought the car would be quicker, honestly,' Mark said.

that's very disappointing. he sounds very disappointed with the pace of the car. i was hoping williams were sandbagging, but their situatin gives me a sense of deja vu of mclaren this time last year....

Looks like Williams have lost their "umph" these days. They haven't been competitive at all for a few seasons now(except for 2003). It looks like even this year the story remains the same they would be lucky if they end of on the top 5.

now he's talking. We are seeing Webber the realist-good for him. Although it is'nt good news, Williams is one of the teams I like.

I think it is a very smart move by Mark Webber for two reasons:

1. It takes some pressure off for him to achieve unrealistic expectations in Australia

2. They could be playing mind games with their opponents, so if they do have a string showing in the first few races, the opposition will think that their own cars are even worse than the Williams.

he he

could be very interesting, especially as Webber was fastest of all at Valencia overnight, beating the ferrari's hands down.

I still am hopeful of a strong williams showing in melb, who knows there could be a big pile up on turn one or turn two on the opening lap, like has happened many times before.

Webber has top the time sheet in he's last test for Williams, which is a nice surprise. Mind you Mclaren and Renault weren't testing. Still it's a little ray of sunshine.

Mark's comments about the fw27 not being a contended at Melbourne could be the result of an increased amount of pressure that is naturally placed onto his shoulders, for the fact that it is his Home race. The Australian media have made a big deal about Webber's new drive and it doesn't help when the last Aussie World champ came from the same team. I also believe Webber likes being the underdog, as it's something us Aussies enjoy. Although you can't get away from the simple fact that the car is not up to scratch and needs more pace.

Can't wait for the race, should be the best in a long time!!!!!

well as I read it :

Williams are SLOW

Ferrari Have little to no chance

McLaren still have problems

Toyota , well who knows

Geez sounds like if Minardi can run their 2004 Modified Car they will win, but hey Ferrari will also run their 2004 modified car !!!

Guys this is all Publicity CRAP, like the drive over Sydney Harbour Bridge at 90 kph with M.W. !!!!!!!!! Christ where the hell could you park to see it ????

PUBLICITY IS ALL IT IS believe me <_<

the car is poor aerodynamically, according to a Michelin worker, well, that's what I read. Webber won't be in with a shout of winning in the early races imo, the car isn't good enough. He should be up there for big points but not the podium. As for him topping testing at Valencia, don't bother, just cos a car is good at Valencia doesn't make it a top car, Barcelona is where you want to be quick.

Well Williams have been going downhill since losing Renault and Villeneuve, they had the chance to bring one of the two back, but didn't take the chance ;)

I wish!! But as for Mark winning, I feel that McLaren and Renault both look far superior, whilst in the case of Ferrari, I just can't bloody tell if they're sandbagging or not mate!!

Not sure that I agree that the loss of Villeneuve has got anything to do with it, I think its more to do with Newey leaving & no more Renault engine. I'm just glad Button didn't succeed in going to Williams, and Webber is going to look bad and all of Australia will snap back to reality and see he's s##t

Toyota have taken it on the chin and made modifications on their package. Williams need to borrow a leaf. Unless they want Webber just to win in China!!

I've got to disagree there!!! Webber put the jaguar into points it really shouldn't have made. Jaguar tried hard to get the second Jaguar in a similar position but the drivers weren't in the same league are Webber. I have full confidence that Webber will shine and it's not just because i"m an Aussie. (maybe just a little, but still!!!!)

Go Webber GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing is certain - MW's honeymoon is over and we are looking to get results. As constantly pointed out - he has never had a good enough driver in the team to test himself against even in inferior machinery. Now he is in the big league, but already there is hint of some excuses coming up - says they may not win.

If he could get Jaguar in the points (personally I think it was a mixture of luck and effort) he should get a Williams on P1 - many drivers have!!!

I was quite impressed at how Webber got 17 points in 2003, but he did nothing special on 04, and I can't help wondering how many points an established driver like JPM or JB would have got in Jag 2003. I can understand Aussies's getting behind him, what angers me is that they laugh at us Brits for getting excited about Button, who's proved a lot more than Webber has

Yer, fair comment!! But even ferrari are suggesting that the first couple of races are going to be tough, but i'm sure Ferrari have something up there sleeves.

I've never said a bad word against Button, as i believe he's a pretty decent driver. I'm disapointed he's not racing for williams as i believe JB and Webber would be a top lineup. Mind you Heidfeld's not too bad.

I am glad JB stayed at BAR - this spreads the talent across the board instead of having all the good drivers concentrated on the top three/four teams. We need decent competition at every level - which is why DC is a breath of fresh air at the back of the grid. Jordan should have at least gone for Davidson or some experienced driver at least!

no dount. it has to be one of teh worst decisions of 2005 to go with 2 untested drivers (literally!) in essentially a new team with new management. talk about a clean slate...
