Senna 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2005 HAKKINEN WINS FIRST DTM RACE (ITV) Mika Hakkinen took the first victory of his motorsport comeback at Spa-Francorchamps today. The 1998 and 1999 world champion returned to competition in the DTM saloon car series this season, three years after retiring from Formula 1. Hakkinen took his Mercedes to pole position in the wet at Spa yesterday in only the third race of his DTM career. He lost the lead to reigning DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom at the start of the race, but moved back ahead thanks to a quicker first pit stop. Mika then pulled away from Ekstrom to secure his first win in saloons, and his first victory of any kind since the 2001 United States Grand Prix. The result puts Hakkinen joint second in the DTM championship, two points behind his young British team-mate Gary Paffett. This competitive pan-European tin-top championship is becoming a popular home for retired F1 drivers. Mika
