Fia's Inconsistency In Ruling Against Underwieght

Recommended Posts

Subaru's Petter Solberg, Chris Atkinson, Stephane Sarrazin and Mitsubishi's Giggi Galli have escaped exclusion from this weekend's Acropolis Rally after their cars were found to be under the minimum weight limit of 1230kg during Thursday's Super Special stage at the Athens Olympic Stadium.

Each of the cars were weighed after the spectacular Super Special stage at the stadium, the first time that a stage of a World Rally event had taken place indoors, and on each occasion all three Subaru Impreza's and the Lancer WRC of Gali came in under the 1230kg minumum weight limit.

The sanction for such a transgression of the rules is immediate exclusion from the event, but the sports governing body, the FIA, Who are already under pressure following the Formula One fiasco at Indianapolis at the weekend, decided instead to hand out financial penalties to all involved.

Solberg received a 30,000 euro fine, 20,000 for Atkinson and 10,000 for Sarrazin and Galli.

The decision to hand out just financial fines instead of exclusion highlights the FIA's power to adapt the rules to accomodate for common sense. It's a shame that similar decisions were not made at Indianapolis on Sunday whereby a chicane was clearly the most suitable solution.

adding some non anti FIA facts.

the scales used for the weighing are now being investigated.

the non exclusion was a direct consequence of indy with some officials saying they could not siqualify 4 cars after what happened at indy.

not everyone has accepted the decision, and some other teams have demanded expulsion.

its not as black and white as that news story makes it appear.

Its also a different sport, and was their underwieght caused by a balant attempt to cheat, or perhaps a mistake?

Cheat or Mistake !!

IF FerrarI were running it would be deemed by the FIA to be a mistake--------------GUARANTEED

or

the scales were incorrect
