MF1 set to confirm Monteiro

Monteiro - Albers lineup expected

Monteiro has already tested in MF1 colours

MF1 Racing has made the most obvious indication yet that Tiago Monteiro is the team's second race driver for the 2006 season.

Team owner Midland Group's head of communications, Ron Fine, said on Tuesday that the Silverstone based squad would finally let the cat out of the bag later in January.

He told us: "An official statement regarding Tiago's position with the team will be made this month."

The Midland official was responding to press speculation that - with the 2006 FIA entry list already naming Portugal-born Monteiro to partner Christijan Albers - an official MF1 announcement would not be made.

"As Tiago drove for the team in 2005, with an option for 2006," Fine continued, "an announcement is not considered necessary."

Getting quite irritating now - Will be announced won't be announced, will be confirmed, already has a contract, won't be confirmed, not needed to be confirmed, releases book on rookie year..........

Monteiro, the most successful rookie in F1 history, deserves the drive at MF1.

if success was measured with the number of finishes in a season.

having said that...he does deserve the drive at MF1

Monteiro holds an absolute all-time F1 record. He consistently brought his car home and scored a genuine point at Spa. He did a solid but unspectacular job. He deserves the drive at MF1.

Indeed, even if MF1 doesn't deserve him..................

They will have a good driver lineup next year if it is Albers and Monteiro. I will start supporting Albers, as I did last year from about Canada on.

How right you are. Monterio should have been given a proper seat (had one been availaible).

I'ts funny how the new livery of Midland is so similar to that of Minardi. They even hijacket the Lost Boys...
