France, O France, Where for art thou

Wow no French GP in 2004, that has not happened since 1955 the year many international events were scrapped to the 80 fatalities in an accident at le Mans.

Now French GP Is Under Threat

The immediate future of the French race is said to be hanging in the balance after it was revealed that negotiations between the Magny Cours promotors and Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management (FOM) had yet to finalise a deal for the 2004 race. Their contract expired in 2003 and a new agreement has yet to be reached.

Reports in the French media say that the cancellation will soon be confirmed by the FIA. On Saturday, the president of the local council of the Nevers region, Marcel Charmant, was quoted as saying the race was definitely off.

Financially, F1 is recovering after a little bit of a quiet period. The 2003 season seems to have helped that situation, and I think once F1 reaches the level in terms of racing that it used to have - then situations like this won't arise again.

It is a huge shame that France won't be on the calendar next year, it is a fantastic race and venue and the calendar is back to 17 races. That is of course if the other races under question don't lose the battle. The official calendar should be out soon, let's see the situation then.
