Poland Says Kubica Is F1's "new King"

Recommended Posts

'The King is gone. Long live the King,' exclaimed headline of Super Express.

On a day at Monza that was dominated by the resignation of Michael Schumacher, the Polish newspaper is clearly referring to the maiden podium last Sunday of 21-year-old Robert Kubica.

Despite the third placed qualifying of his experienced teammate Nick Heidfeld, Kubica - the Krakow-born Pole - reached the top three in only his third Formula One Grand Prix.

Nationwide Polish daily Rzeczpospolita heralded him as the 'new star of Polish sport', while Gazeta Wyborcza said that despite only recently emerging from BMW-Sauber's test c#ckpit, the youngster is now 'among the sport's heroes'.

Gazeta Wyborcza added that Kubica is exceeded in popularity only by Polish 'Olympic athletes and football stars'.

Kubica is clearly a talent and I don't dislike him as much as I used to - in fact, he sounded reasonably humble during the post-race press conference, didn't he? - but he is no hero. Not yet, anyway. Pity then that the Polish press are going to build him up to a level that is way out of proportion with his accomplishments. That will only cause a backlash against him among non-Polish fans - just ask Webber or Karthikeyan ;)

But why are you telling us about Super Express or Gazeta Wyborcza ?? Are You from Poland ??

"SE" is worst than "Bild". The same polish "Fakt" .. which belongs to "AxelSpringer" who owns "Bild".

And "GW". Maybe you don't belive but they are so good in F1 topics, that they are even don't know Kubica name:

http://republika.pl/marcusmaximus/gw.jpg

"Gazeta Wyborcza" also made wrong (on purpose) tranlastion of Robert interview. And it wasn't the first time. They (I don't know why) trying to make buffoon from him.

Polish F1 forums, or F1 magazines are much closer to the ground. So nothing to worry about. Of course every-one is very proud, happy etc. But's the normal thing in my opinion. Anyway on Sunday Poland scored first ever points in F1 .. and in what a way !!

Every nation needs a hero. One have Superman which puts red panties on the blue trousers :D:D other have M. Schumacher or Alonso. In Poland we have tendency to overrate or underrate sports idols. But if something goes wrong .... ehh ... better don't talk about it. One day you are a star, next day no one remember you. Stupidy :( But look about Alonso and F1. Now practicly everyone in Spain are F1 specialist :) So it's not only polish tendency.

"The King is gone. Long live the King"

But the same wrote italian press about young Pole. They even told, that Kubica start, is probably the best start in this year.

PS: Of course polish F1 fans are aware that "Kubicomania" may start. We are not happy, but it could happen. We need a hero .. sport idol. I'm not happy that next day after Kubica earned 7 place in Hungary all my family was talking about F1 .. when earlier they even didn't knew the teams. But it's happens in every nation. Specially when is "lackness" (yes?) of sport success. Just look at history of Jos Verstappen. Or how F1 is now popular in Spain.

What do you care what the Polish think of their driver, and why would it effect yours or any non-polishes view of Kubica?

Well they only raised him to the level of Football and Olympic athletes from Poland. and Judging by his accomplishmens in F1, he is definitely worth of being called a King in Poland. Remember being a driver in F1 itself is an big accomplishment....

Even though I am admittedly a staunch JV supporter, Kubica has definitely looked impressive. I think the time is right for both JV and Schumi to hang up the boots. The kids coming up are just quicker and well versed with the zillions of driver aids that keep coming and going. I don't resent or dislike RK for stepping into JV's place and think he does indeed have a bright future ahead of him. Hero or legend status?? I think a few wins are in order before we go there.

Kubica did a great race, in a car that is not a good one, he maintained Massa in the mighty Ferrari...Poor JV...damn!

I care because I'm an educator and clearly, if the Polish think their man is the new king in F1, they are in need of some education. To the extent that is possible, I intend to administer that education right here in our beloved forum.

"Kubica is only exceeded in popularity by Polish athletes and football stars" - what football stars are those then?????

Polish media sounds like English media. 1 good result and the sportsman is super-hyped as if he's going to take over f1, just like many other rookies before him. I will reserve my judgement until we've seen a few more races!

Polish football stars? :D Hehe ... hard to say but:

-Jurek Dudek (man of the match in CL final, Liverpool)

-Maciej Żurawski (most goals in Celtic Glasgow and their league)

-Boruc (goal-keeper in Celtic) and Kuszczak (Manchaster Utd. goal-keeper)

But now they are totaly without form. Dudek since CL final is on the bench. And his last matches against Denmark and Finalnd showed why. Żurawski couldn't score a goal for polish team for several months. He was one of the worst polish players in WC2006. Kuszczak ... let's say (and it will be true) that Columbian goalkeeper kick him a goal !! Polish team, and players failed in WC2006. Now we have a new coach. Benhakker (Real Madryt, and Holland team coach) .. but he lost on our ground 3:1 with Finalnd !! Our players, "old stars" are totaly useless. So when Kubica exceeded popularity of polish "football stars" dosen't mean, that he is now another Alonso or Schumacher :D I think, that Kubica succeed more than polish players since Boniek or Deyna era. Just to be in F1 beacuse of your skills, talent not money is something great in my opinion. F1 is princess of motor racing. And only 22 players per year are avaliable.

I think, that polish people compare Kubica to Adam Małysz.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Ma%C5%82ysz

We had "Małyszomania" for several years. Now we are very close to "Kubicomania". And I'm not happy from that reason. Most F1 supportsters are not happy. Why? Who needs "seasonal" fans? And most of them are just stupid. They don't know anything about F1. And ...

"Polish media sounds like English media. 1 good result and the sportsman is super-hyped"

Exactly. And one or two not the best races of Kubica, may work "battue" on him. And that's why Kubica isn't in close relations with polish media. And that's why he didn't say anything about fans after on conference. He is aware, that old fans will always support him, but he won't be another Adam Malysz. If you are on top, you are a hero, one bad "jump", "drive" and you are nowhere. That's how it works :(:(

Yeah, the guy is most definately a great talent! Who cares what the media say, so long as he does his job on the track.

That's right, Jem, we haven't seen nearly enough of him to make any conclusion beyond saying that he has potential at this point.

The only thing Kubica will dominate is the most aerodynamical face competition.

The only thing Kubica will dominate is the most aerodynamical face competition.

I wouldn't laugh too early - BMW hand their wrists slapped over their flexible wings, now it has been discovered that Mr Kubica's nose is being cited as a 'Moving Aerodynamic Device' by Ron Dennis. In fact, due to the said appendage enjoying a 7degree bend to the right, Ron reckons that he may have an unfair advantage (with most circuits having mainly right-handers) with extra directional stability at most circuits.

The FIA have tried to mediate, and insisted that as long as Mr Kubica doesn't lift his visor at any time during the race, they can see no advantage being gained. The FIA have also warned drivers that have considered using surgery to enhance their performance in the aerodynamic stakes not to be such silly sausages by pointing out that Mr Alonso doesn't seem to be slowed, even with an arm that jerks uncontrollably out of the c#ckpit, thus disrupting the airflow.

All of this is true.

Only kidding, no offence to Mr Kubica, he's looking good so far.

No offence to Mr Alonso, he looked good a while ago. In fact Mr Alonso might be nearly as good as Mr Raikonen (who steals an unfair advantage by using special contact lenses that freak the competition out :naughty: )
