Chris Strange 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2006 Michael Schumacher has been voted the most popular Formula One driver in a recent FIA survey. The German, who announced he would be retiring from the sport at the end of the season, gained an impressive 28 percent of the votes from the 91,000 fans who took part in the annual survey. Second place went to Kimi Raikkonen, who will be replacing Schumacher at Ferrari in 2007. However, the Finn received only 17% of the votes. Honda's Jenson Button finished in third place with 8%, while reigning F1 Champion Fernando Alonso was fourth and David Coulthard, fifth. Recently departed F1 drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve were sixth and seventh with five and four percent of the votes respectively, while Mark Webber finished up in eighth place. Takuma Sato and Rubens Barrichello completed the top ten. Meanwhile on the teams' side, it was Ferrari who proved to be the most popular team, gaining 30% of the votes. McLaren were second with Renault and Williams tied for third place. No comment......
