6 Bottom teams can run 3rd car on Friday - what's the point?

Recommended Posts

 According to the new rules for 2004, the 6 bottom teams will be allowed to run a 3rd car on the tests on Friday. Well, this might be a good idea but what I dont understand why these 3rd cars cannot be driven by an experienced driver. What is the point then?

It means that the smaller teams can generate a little bit more revenue by organising a young 'un from each country to pay for the drive in their home race.

The actual testing data may be useless, as these pay-testers may not have any idea about the intricacies of the particular car but as long as they can pay their $500,000 or so for the privilidge, who cares.

and dont forget some of these teams cant even afford to test between races so the extra car miles, even if driven by a dribbling creten is better than none

The rule about no experienced third drivers is likely to be scrapped tomorrow at a team bosses meeting, but the idea was so cut costs for the smaller teams so they wouldn't even be tempted to sign an experienced driver with higher wages. Also to bring new blood into the game.

I hope it is scrapped, as it would keep good drivers such as McNish, out of the sports eye for 2 years if they lucked out of a drive, or a testing role in one of the top 4 teams.
